🌉 Our event had a clear mission: forging new links with 3 Montreal research centres :

Aimed at bridging theory and experiment, the first annual Quantum Simulation Conference (#QSim) brought together physicists, engineers, chemists, material scientists, mathematicians, and computer scientists from around the world to discuss quantum systems.

Matt Johnson and I explored collaborations of the IQC-Perimeter initiative “QFun” and the UK-based QSimFM project.

I like the “Meeting Owl” 🦉 for having in-person discussions, while including people that are out-of-town.

I owl-ways prefer a hybrid meeting over an all-remote one, but nothing beats a good old whiteboard discussion. Preferably with earl grey and a cookie 🙂

What a pleasure to see Albie defend his MSc thesis today.

As a supervisor, it was fantastic to work with a student who is as resourceful and dedicated to his projects. I am happy that Albie will keep working with us as a PhD student.

We don't talk much about her contributions to prove that energy conservation holds in general relativity, resolving a problem that held Einstein back from proclaiming general relativity as a new theory.

Today, our summer student Victor presented his work on the Perimeter Conference for Machine Learning

We found that Victor’s scheme on using neural networks for reconstructing quantum states is very good at learning the relative phases.
