@mitchmalloy Slate has put out a lot of impressive stuff. With plugs being as good as they are these days, it almost makes no sense to have outboard gear especially given the price of a set of pulteks, LA2As, and so on. But being old school, I still like seeing and touching real gear.
@mitchmalloy Nah man. Youโre safe. She still digs rock stars with long flowing hair more than fat old dudes with a bald spot and receding hairline. ๐
@mitchmalloy Me: Babe, I need to spend some more money on an eq plugin.
Wife: Donโt you think youโve spent enough already?
Me: But babe, Mitch Malloy said it will make my mix sound better.
Wife: Yeah, but it wonโt make you look like him.
At least Iโm getting the plugin.๐คฃ
@mitchmalloy After messing with the shelves, it seems that the shelves are as steep as the stock Logic channel and linear eqโs are capable of. Iโm going to check out proQ4 tomorrow and see if itโs capable of steeper shelves. Thanks again for the tips and advice.
@mitchmalloy That works like a charm! I split the difference and cut 79.5 by 7 db and the mud was gone. Kick and bass now are sitting nicely in the mix. I can hear both of them clearly and they both still have punch and body without using compression or anything else. Much appreciated!
@mitchmalloy Will do. That may be part of my issue with the low end. I know I boosted 80 for sure trying to get more punch from the kick. Iโll pull it down a few db at a time and give it a listen.
@mitchmalloy Iโm definitely a 70s guy. Thank you very much for the advice. Iโll give it a whirl when I get home from work. I never even considered cutting the high end. And if you ever did teach a class, Iโd be in attendance for sure.
@mitchmalloy Your hard work shows. The mix on โThe Last Songโ album is amazing. Every instrument has its own room to breathe. Thatโs where Iโm stuck at the moment. Especially with the kick and bass parts. 80 to 120 Hz, it sounds like mud. Iโll have to try reducing EQ or some shelving.
Mitch Malloy and his high school band Lightning rockin the reunion show cause 35 years off was enough. We are NOT trying to be Thin Lizzy we are just trying to be good and if we succeeded please either say something nice or if you are filled with hate at least be funny. And then I will block you. :>) This will never be repeated. Enjoy! @ThinLizzy_@ClassicRock
