I hope to see you at the 2026 Annual Meetings, presented by IARS & SOCCA, May 1-3, 2026, in Montreal. I’ll be moderating “Rapid Fire Panel - Co-Sponsored by Early-Stage Anesthesiology Scholars (eSAS)”

Patients undergoing extracranial surgery early after TBI, or with acute CT brain findings, had worse cognitive & disability outcomes compared with general orthopedic trauma patients or those with TBI with negative head CTs.

With profound grief, we would like to inform everyone that Prof. Robert Daroff has passed away here in Cleveland. He was a legendary figure in the field of neurology & neuro-ophthalmology and his legacy is unmatched. Here are some facts about his amazing life.
#FAERagc has officially ended!
Thanks to the outstanding work of our Team Captains & the wonderful generosity of our donors, we exceeded our goal & raised $365K in support of #anesthesiology’s early-career investigators! 🥳🎉🥳🎉

Grateful to @ahwendowment for the opportunity their investment in our team provides to investigate the effects of surgery after TBI to improve healthcare for Wisconsinites and other patients.
I will take the blame that it is @MCW_Anesth fault!
I do agree that clearance can definitely feel cringy. Hopefully some objective biomarkers are coming in the near future to clarify whose at risk and during what critical window
After all this time, we finally have evidence IT IS Anesthesia’s fault!
[I’m joking, I’m joking]
I do cringe, however, at the potential demand for NSGY clearance for all early pre-ops!
Clinical Outcomes After TBI and Exposure to Extracranial Surgery https://t.co/Y4o0ApMo2k
In level I trauma center patients with broad traumatic brain injury severity levels, extracranial surgery and anesthesia was associated with worse functional outcomes and executive cognition at 6 months after injury. https://t.co/JqQnxq9vpu
Interesting results; appropriate caution regarding unmeasured confounds. Interesting to see whether the timing of EC surgery had an association with outcome?

Grateful to TRACK for creating this amazing dataset and allowing me to collaborate with an awesome research team and JAMA to share this work.

@Menon_Cambridge I was fortunate to be part of the team and we completely agree with your point that the timing of EC Surgery is so interesting and important.
