This is beyond horrific. The U.S. just deported someone to Haiti who came to America at 6 years old. Now he’s stuck in a country gripped by gang violence where he doesn’t have family or any connections. And for what? What are we even doing here?
Another day, another brazen lie and another act of thuggery. The truth, of course, is that the reserves are virtually empty not because of Biden but because of Trump’s war with Iran. And the truth is that the oil is not a “gift” from the Venezuelans but was extorted from them at gunpoint. I’m well aware that the president’s remaining admirers couldn’t care less. Though they once rightly warned of the moral corruption the woke left posed to the country, they have now themselves degenerated into “might makes right” power worship and jingoism, and “the end justifies the means” amorality. They have betrayed the very principles they said that only Trump could further - on abortion, forever wars, affordability, Epstein transparency, the national debt, and on and on. And they rationalize every betrayal by telling themselves "But the other side is worse," as if merely not being on the left gives one a free pass. Screwtape couldn’t have more skillfully engineered the corruption of their souls.
Extraordinary, powerful and heart-wrenching.
Active duty Marine Colonel Zach Schmidt, speaking in his personal capacity, about Khalil, an Afghan national whose family helped U.S. forces in Afghanistan.
Khalil was deported by the U.S. on Friday to a conflict zone.
I think Milo sucks too, but the idea of a government agency being used to take out ideological enemies and ridicule them online is obviously a gross violation of both the dignity of the person and American democratic values. Amazing that as a priest you don't recognize that.
There seems to be very little recognition from Israeli officials and soldiers that when they boast about killing people, they are talking about real people whose lives they ended. This courageous aid worker did nothing to deserve to be killed, does not deserve to be called a legitimate target after she was murdered, and those responsible should still be prosecuted.

The name Lake Ontario comes from the Wendat word Ontari’io, which, appropriately, means “the lake is beautiful, the lake is big”.
The name is more than 400 years old, predating both the Confederation of Canada and the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America.
We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms.
Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario – then, now and always.
@jaynordlinger I’m reminded of when Republicans would take extreme umbrage at being called a Nazi. Now it’s not uncommon to find these larping Brownshirts throughout the administration.

New reporting from ProPublica just exposed that Pete Hegseth polled top military commanders on cutting the program that protects civilians from military strikes.
Every single one wanted to keep the program, but Hegseth gutted it anyway for being too “woke.”
What followed was a U.S. strike in Yemen that a Pentagon review confirmed killed 153 civilians.
On day one of Trump’s unauthorized war in Iran, another strike hit an Iranian primary school and killed up to 168 people. Central Command itself warned that these cuts would mean “increased risk of target misidentification,” but Hegseth ignored them.
These are the consequences of having the greatest military in the world in the hands of the most incompetent SecDef in American history.

🚨 BREAKING: Texas school district closes every campus due to new COVID-19 outbreak.
Texas Republicans have signed several pieces of legislation discouraging COVID vaccine use.
We've been getting a lot of questions lately about how the Internet Archive digitizes books.
The short answer: page by page, by hand.
You may remember our viral 2021 video of Eliza Zhang scanning a book. That's still how we do it.
Meet Eliza, and learn how we scan books: https://t.co/gt9s5lbPE4
An incredible story. The Iranian Christian woman who wrote “help” on the glass on the hotel in Panama has finally found permanent safety; in Canada.
The Trump admin deported her to Panama soon after taking office, rather than let her seek asylum. Read her story 👇
COVlD is surging in Texas, leading to school closures and rising Emergency Room visits, disproportionately among babies.
We became concerned about the possible surge 3 months ago today, and Texas was the impetus for our early-release of the PMC county-level map.
Pretti's Mother: "I was not shocked that he helped somebody. My shock is that he was murdered, and no one has given us the complete truth…Left cold on the ground, dead. My child."
Pretti's Father: "There was more effort in vilifying him than pursuing justice and investigating this."
An ICE agent scanned the wrong license plate, chased the wrong man, and ended up shooting Julio Sosa-Celis through his own front door. DHS’s first story: Sosa-Celis attacked agents with a broom and snow shovel. City surveillance video proved that was false — the whole struggle lasted about 12 seconds. DHS admitted its agents gave “untruthful” sworn testimony. Charges against Sosa-Celis were dropped with prejudice.
The agent, Christian Castro, is now charged with 4 counts of assault + falsely reporting a crime. He fled to Texas.
Greg Abbott is refusing to extradite him. Minnesota’s AG just sued Abbott to force it.
A Republican governor is actively shielding a federal agent from facing trial for shooting an innocent man and lying about it under oath.
Texas, you have a job to do in November. And then justice can finally be delivered.
