My new essay at @Articles_of_War concerning Russia's alleged program to develop nuclear ASATs and how that relates to broader debates about weapons in space. https://t.co/xlPy2eNb1F
Current debates over the use of ASATs show areas of regulatory overlap, explains @Chris_Borgen in today's post examining the #law applicable to #Russia's alleged development of a nuclear weapon for use as an ASAT. https://t.co/dKoI8CKVa6
This is hugely significant: "Japan has decided to take the position that it is permissible to preserve the existing baselines and maritime zones established in accordance with (UNCLOS) notwithstanding the regression of coastlines". This is of real & existential assistance to PICs
The Chinese MFA has released a statement about the balloon. Some nifty lawyering going on. The statement declares (a) that the Chinese "unmanned airship" entered into US airspace unintentionally and unexpectedly, due to force majeure; (b) that China respects the sovereignty /1
Too close for comfort... 😳
Two large, defunct objects in #LEO narrowly missed each other this morning — an SL-8 rocket body (16511) and Cosmos 2361 (25590) passed by one another at an altitude of 984km. 🚀⚠️ #SpaceDebris
🛰️Amid “Chinese Spy Balloon”, keep in mind China has far more capability to conduct surveillance with satellites rather than possibly just a stratollite balloon. Even the commercial Jilin1 can provide sub-m image/video services, not to mention state-owned Yaogan & Shijian series.
I'm happy to note that @mdezwart and I have an essay about space activities and national security in the new ABA online anthology on the transformation of national security law. https://t.co/St0vogbsPy
Rwanda and Nigeria have signed the #ArtemisAccords. The first two African states but I doubt the last. A big deal and demonstrates their #spacepolicy leadership on the continent. #spacelaw
Vanuatu and other states are seeking an advisory opinion on climate change obligations. There's a theme song: maybe the first time the phrase "International Court of Justice, an Advisory Opinion on human rights and climate change" has ever been sung? 1/2 https://t.co/bwiP9Izigh

This morning a part of a Russian missile shot down by Ukrainian air defences landed in the Moldovan village of Naslavcea on the Ukrainian border.
There were no casualties; the shock wave shattered windows of several residential houses.
After Ukraine, Moldova is the next country to face pressure from Russia: "The Russians are “doing all they can to turn the lights out,” a Western official said. “They don’t need to do much more than that to destabilize the Moldovan government.” https://t.co/8om5ciNeY2
