@SENSEBC Clearly, posted speeds have to be appropriate for conditions, but I also think urban and suburban sprawl has to be contained. Bad urban planning is gradually plugging many of our intercity highways and turning them into inefficient local access roads
@wxcentre The outlook maps are fine, but the city highlights seem to heavily favour Atlantic Canada. Why does a small province like Nova Scotia have 3 population centres highlighted (including tiny Yarmouth). the same number as big provinces like Ontario and BC?
@justinhobson85 So far only rain in Chemainus which I've reported to Pacific Weather Centre, but #BCstorm seems to be hanging tough with it's forcast of wet snow without rain. Maybe they will amend if Nanaimo Airport reports rain with their first obs of the day.
@wxcentre Actually, the astronomical 1st day of spring isn't official in all N. hemisphere countries. Some EU countries use March 1, the official meteorological date which I thought you'd be using. Environment Canada uses Mar. 1 for its spring outlook.
@ariannaafsar 15 is flying a bit low for someone trying to guess your age, but you are very youthful looking even for a young adult, and I mean that in a good way!
@SENSEBC What's keeping police busy on the S. Island is that a growing number of motorists are demanding a Nanaimo to Victoria freeway & they're not taking "no" for an answer. If the latest govt study doesn't fix this, we'll end up with a killing field on the hwy.
@RanRinBC@murdochdavis@SENSEBC Vancouver Is. has tons of traffic signals on its intercity highways except Greater Victoria and the Comox Valley which have freeways with 110km/h on the latter. The rest of the Island Highway is stop-and-go to slow and TranBC intends to keep it that way!
@TranBC@DriveBC One mildly encouraging think TranBC said about a bypass a few years ago was that it was "on our radar" but not "in the cards" for the 2015 ten year plan. So maybe next plan ca. 2025? Of course I know you can't answer that yet.
@TranBC@DriveBC I don't remember seeing a poem with your tweet, and now I can't find either on Twitter. Poems are nice, but I think I'd rather see a new Duncan bypass on the Island TCH or ITCH; a rather fitting acronym when sitting & squirming in Duncan traffic don't you think!?
@SENSEBC Red light cameras are part of the problem, but a much bigger problem is the over-reliance of North American jurisdictions on stoplights at intersections where interchanges & roundabouts would be safer and more efficient. Stoplights are the real cash cows.
@CTVNewsVI The Nanaimo Parkway was to have had interchanges at its busiest junctions until the auditor general bullied TranBC into downgrading to stoplights. Looks like the hens are coming home to roost. #trefficlightssuck#stoplightssuck
@TranBC @spirit_of_urban So media was wrong about it being Victoria to Duncan. No surprise there. BC gov't attitude has always been to ignore Duncan corridor studies, and Horgan's govt is no different. He's not an Island premier, just Victoria-Malahat!
