Struggling for the words this morning at the loss of this great man. No church leader has had a more profound impact on my faith than Elder Holland. Like millions of others mourning today, his words had a way of penetrating my soul like no others. In times of trial or darkness, I would return to them over and over again and feel the light and peace I needed. He tended the flock with devoted attention, but never hesitated to leave the ninety-and-nine in search of the one. Sometimes I was the one. I will be forever grateful for his love and godly wisdom. Getting these last two bonus years with him, after his miraculous recovery, has been an incredible blessing. I know he missed his sweet wife more than anything in this world and I am so happy they are together again. He was truly one of the noble and great ones.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is more like a service center, where vehicles in need of repair come for maintenance and rehabilitation.

And are we not all in need of repair, maintenance, and rehabilitation?

Artificial discipleship not only keeps us from seeing ourselves as who we really are, but it also prevents us from truly changing through the miracle of the Savior’s Atonement.

The Savior’s Church is a place of healing, not a place of despair, judgment, or sorrow. Jesus Christ, and living His restored gospel, can make of us the genuine, spiritual being of light and truth we desire to be.

Kristen and I love spending time together in the outdoors. We feel closer to God when we witness the beauty of the earth that He created.

If you see yourself as a victim, you'll be convinced that the world views you that way too.

The Dartmouth Scar Experiment reveals that.

Participants thought they'd be interviewed for jobs with a fake scar on their face, which they saw being applied by a makeup artist. However, during the touch up phase, unbeknownst to them the scar was removed.

Those participants who believed that they still had a visible scar, reported a massively increased level of discrimination. They also "displayed heightened feelings of powerlessness, self-pity, and an increased tendency to blame others for their failures." (source: Medium).

They believed that they were discriminated against and thus internalized it in a negative way.

The study essentially revealed that regardless of whether there's actual discrimination or not, when one believes themselves to be a victim it results in negative consequences.
