It’s been 63 years since suicide was decriminalised in the UK. But so many of us still use the term ‘commit suicide’.
Why does it matter? Language that links suicide and crime can increase stigma and prevent people struggling with suicidal thoughts from speaking out.
If we choose language like ‘died by suicide’ or ‘took their own life’ we allow space for open conversations and compassion. Let’s choose our words carefully.

@AlfieHouseEcho I think that is harsh. He controlled the game well and was even with his decisions if you remain objective….IMHO. You disagreed with him on Downes but his view of it and decision was valid. While stopping the game appeared inconsistent; Milenkovic was in the six yard area
@SkysEdgeMusical Coming Saturday for the third time. A remarkable production in every respect. The best cultural experiences change you and this has me. To catch @laurynredding ‘s eye from the front row at the curtain call and be able to mouth a “thank you” is something I’ll always remember.
@joetracini Dude. I know you pop back here to try and make sense of shit for yourself but you do know it helps others too right? Pretty good place in the world IMVHO!
standing on stage telling a story about how careful manipulation caused a nation to sleepwalk into fascism every night then walking out of the theatre to this shit.
