Die Dortmund Pokémon VGC Regional Championship, ist damit für mich mit 3-6 zuende gegangen. Aber dafür hab ich mal wieder viele nette und tolle Menschen kennengelernt. 😁
Home from Charlotte! Incredibly proud of my performance this weekend, not only winning the largest official Pokemon tournament of all time but also winning the most sets any player ever has in an official tournament. I've posted the rental team and EV spreads on Patreon!
Free VGC Regulation F Goodstuffs Team
Hey everyone! I created this team and I would love to share it with you. I can't see the team being bad, as the 6 Pokemon are just solid together. Usually, when you have a team of 6 very good Pokemon, this team comp is called "goodstuffs". In this post, I will break down how I built the team and how to use it. If you just want the paste, scroll to the bottom.
Let's get into the team!
How I built the team:
I started out with Incineroar and Amoonguss. Amoonguss and Incineroar are a great defensive core. Amoonguss resists Water and Fighting types for Incineroar. Incineroar provides Intimidate for Amoonguss, and can hit Steel, Ice, and opposing Grass types to make Amoonguss' job easier. Incineroar also provides great synergy with Pollen Puff. You can Fake Out + Pollen Puff Incinearoar, or Parting Shot out and Pollen Puff the incoming Pokemon. Safety Goggles is essential on Incineroar, as it allows us to wall opposing Amoonguss. This is key for the opposing Amoonguss mirror match. We can create a board where Amoonguss can not spore either one of our Pokemon. Incineroar can hit Amoonguss with super-effective damage thanks to Flare Blitz, and Amoonguss can punish a Tera by putting opposing Amoonguss to sleep. Overall these Pokemon complement one another very nicely.
Next up, I added a Flutter Mane. Flutter Mane provides a much-needed fast mode for the team. Without Flutter Mane, we would lack damage output. Flutter Mane is very nice with Amoonguss and Incineroar because they both provide what Flutter Mane needs the most to be enabled: Redirection and Intimidate. This core relies on proper positioning and enabling Flutter Mane to sweep. In addition, Flutter Mane and Incineroar work very nicely because Flare Blitz + Moonblast can pin every type except for Fire. Flutter Mane also clears the Fighting types to make room for Incineroar.
The 4th Pokemon I decided to add was Choice Scarf Urshifu. This pick was added because we needed some speed. Incineroar and Amoonguss are very strong together, but they lack offense and speed. Choice Scarf Urshifu covers both of those holes. In addition, this Pokemon has a positive matchup into opposing Incineroar. This is very important, given Incineroar can beat all of our current Pokemon. With this pick, we have our core.
The next Pokemon I added was Chien-Pao. This Pokemon gives us some more speed, and allows us to truly keep up with the speed battle. Sash Chien-Pao is absurdly good at trading. It's also a great way to power up our Choice Scarf Urshifu. This slot is essential as well because it can Ice Spinner opposing Psychic Terrain away. This slot also helps into Raging Bolt. Chien-Pao with proper positioning is insane on Goodstuffs, as proven in the world championships.
The last Pokemon I added was Dragonite. Originally this was a Latias. I felt as if Latias lacked offense and it just felt very underwhelming. One of my friends asked me a great question. "Why is there a Latias, instead of a Dragonite?" - @LukatheKuka_. That was a great question, indeed. The lightbulb went off in my head. With Dragonite, this allows us to have Sword of Ruin-boosted Extreme Speed sweeps. Dragonite is also great into opposing Incineroar, which is a great addition to our team. Assault Vest was chosen to maximize bulk. I originally tried Choice Band, but it felt too restrictive. Choice Band became exploitable vs good players. AV allows me to play Dragonite the way it's meant to be played, as a bulky Dragon. We can switch into Surging Strikes, Flare Blitz, Grassy Glide, Wood Hammer, etc. Flying Dragon is a great defensive typing.
And like that, the 6 Pokemon were decided.
Now, how do I use the team?
Well, this team is focused on having an even matchup spread. What this means is that your matchups are close to 50/50. Half in our favor, half in theirs. You can use this even matchup to outplay your opponent with proper positioning/reads. I don't have any lines into specific matchups, I just have a set of "rules." Please note that these rules will need to be broken in certain matchups. We can try to cover everything, but in some matchups that's simply impossible.
Here are the rules:
- Against opposing Amoonguss, we need our own Amoonguss and Incineroar. Don't let Incineroar get Knocked Off. Knock off their Safety Goggles and put their team to sleep. Play the Spore Mirror. Position better than the opponent. KO Amoonguss with a Flare Blitz, Ice Spinner, Shadow Ball, or Aerial Ace. DO NOT LET YOUR TEAM GET SLEPT UNLESS YOU HAVE TO.
- Against Psychic Terrain, this would normally be free with double dark. Unfortunately, Iron Crown makes this really annoying. Play Chien-Pao smartly. Wall Iron Crown with Incineroar. Do not let Iron Crown KO Chien-Pao for free. Tera Water Amoonguss also goes in here.
- Against Entei, Amoonguss lives a Sacred Fire (without modifiers). We can take one then put it to sleep. We can also gamble with Dragonite and hope we don't get burned. Urshifu is also great into Entei. Just be careful of the ogerpon + dragon type they always have on these comps if going Urshifu. I usually play for a Flutter Mane sweep
- Against Urshifu Tailwind, first I identify if they have the proper tools to respond to Amoonguss (at least 2 checks). If they don't, I put their whole team to sleep. If they do, I usually play Chien-Pao in the early game and KO Tornadus ASAP. Amoonguss if positioned properly can destroy these comps. if they have Gholdengo, just have at least 2 checks for the Gholdengo (Incineroar, Flutter Mane, Chien-Pao, Urshifu). Just be careful of positioning them to beat the Gholdengo.
- Against Raging Bolt, just position Chien-Pao/Amoonguss/Flutter Mane properly. If they are Goggles, we can Knock Off it then put it to sleep. If they're tera grass, we can Flare Blitz Raging Bolt to punish it.
- Against Urshifu Incineroar Rillaboom, Amoonguss is key here. Knock Off the Safety Goggles. If they don't have Safety Goggles, just put their whole team to sleep.
- Focus on having 2 checks for each of their Pokemon. If there's an Incineroar, have 2 checks for it. If there's a Flutter Mane, ensure you have 2 ways to beat it. Sometimes these Pokemon overlap.
As for win conditions, I primarily have 4 ways I close out games, here they are:
- Chien-Pao 1v1 (Sash lets us win most 1v1's). Chien-Pao if brought in the late game can sweep if positioned properly
- Extreme Speed Sweep, get their whole team into Extreme Speed range
- Flutter Mane sweep. Get their whole team into range of Flutter Mane. Just rack up KO's. Tera Fairy Dazzling Gleam is great at closing out games. Clear the path to victory by removing their fairy resistances.
- Scarf Urshifu sweep. Position Scarf Urshifu in a way that can get OHKO's turn after turn. Remove the Rillabom/Amoonguss, etc.
However, this team is not perfect. Here are the flaws:
- Only 2 Protects. This can allow us to feel exposed from time to time.
- 3 Fairy-weak Pokemon. Tera can help with this and so does Sash Chien-Pao.
- Iron Crown. This matchup requires a lot of reads to play.

After weeks' practice in tournaments and ladder, I chose 16 competitive regulation F rental teams to publish.
Most are standard template teams that are suitable for early reg F.
I'd be glad if these can offer any slight help to you.
