One thing you must understand is that, The Nigerian state is sore afraid of the Igbo land. The one region they will never tolerate anything is the Southeast.

What they saw and experienced in the civil war still baffles them till today.

A region with no military might except resilience and self-determination withstood the Nigerian military might for 3 years, producing their own local weapons and fuel to fight with ordinary civilians.
