Oh I could stand for hours and watch splashes of sunshine on the land, falling through clouds to spotlight scattered farms and barns below. It's a view that's at once constant, yet ever-changing.

@exitthelemming@channel5_tv Lovely programme. We appreciated the realism, how hours can be spent watching and waiting for something that doesn't show. For s it was the Turkestan Shrike at Dunwich Heath last year. In the pouring rain we just caught a glimpse of its tail feathers! More episodes please!

There was a powerful ice run on the Esentai River in Almaty, Kazakhstan, today.
The surge was probably caused by an ice jam (also called an ice dam), when chunks of river ice accumulate and block the flow of water.
When the water builds up behind the jam, it can cause sudden flooding. If the jam suddenly breaks, it can send large ice blocks rushing downstream.
I had a great day yesterday with the Crossbills, albeit I had to wait a long time for them to come to the puddle. What makes these images different is, the puddle was right on the edge of a main road with a track leading to a parking area. These birds were litterally on the road.
