We ask you to go and see an ENT doctor so they can take a look at the larynx and see what’s going on.
In some rare cases there is sometimes cancer on the vocal fold.

Is your hoarse voice a sign of something serious?
Most of the time, when people have hoarse voices or they notice something is not working quite right with their voice, it turns out to be something that isn’t very serious.
However there are times where it’s something more serious. That’s why we voice therapist’s always recommend that people check out hoarse voice that’s been going on for more than 2 to 3 weeks.
After a Thyroid Shave or Adam’s Apple Reduction you may get voice changes. However, the goal is that you will not have any voice changes. If you do notice some voice changes you need to get your voice checked out by an Ear, Nose and Throat Doctor.

Voice changes can be things like, the ability to change your pitch, sustain your voice (for as long as you used to be able to), reach higher notes (as well as you used to be able to), sounding a bit hoarse and a bit rough in the tone.
Whether you're a singer or speaker, understanding these changes can help you appreciate and adapt to your voice as it matures.

One of the lesser known points about voice therapy is we work closely to help clients develop vocal confidence. It is an important aspect of voice change and even with surgery a client might not have vocal confidence or enough vocal confidence to use or adjust to the voice.
It’s often the case that gender non-conforming or non-binary individuals want to spend longer exploring their voice and that can be quite natural.
For some, it will be a short journey of intervention and for others it will be a longer joinery of exploration.
It allows the therapist to get to know your voice and to pick up on any other issues that might be going on, that will need to be resolved before the surgery. #glottoplasty
It’s a good idea to have a pre-surgery assessment with a therapist that your surgeon recommends. That is so we can go through the voice care advice post-surgery. It is also to give you a space to be able to talk about the surgery.

As a rough guide a gender neutral voice can often be achieved in about four sessions. A few additional sessions helps the vocal stamina to develop. Therefore, around six sessions is a realistic goal.
