My Statement on Supreme Court of the United States Opinion in West Virginia v. B.P.J. and Little v. Hecox:

Every child deserves to feel that they belong - that they are welcome in their school, on their team, and in their community. Today's Supreme Court decision sends the opposite message to transgender women and girls, telling them that there is no place for them in the sports and school communities they call home.

It does not promote fairness to categorically prohibit transgender girls and women from participating in sports that match their gender identity. Those blanket bans exclude children and women from opportunities to build confidence, friendships, discipline, and a sense of belonging. They deny young people the simple joy of playing alongside their peers and participating fully in one of the most meaningful parts of childhood.

Maryland has chosen a different path. We have never adopted a blanket ban barring transgender youth from participating in school athletics because we believe every child deserves the opportunity to play, compete, and belong.

Our Office stands with Maryland's transgender youth today and every day. We will continue working to ensure that every child is treated with dignity and respect and has the freedom to live as their authentic self.

As we spend time with loved ones this weekend, we also pause to remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. We honor their sacrifice, their courage, and the freedoms they helped protect.

Today, I had the great honor of speaking at the University of Baltimore’s Spring 2026 Commencement and celebrating the next generation of legal leaders.

The Class of 2026 enters the profession at a moment when courage, integrity, and a commitment to justice matter more than ever. As I told the graduates: the world doesn’t just need lawyers who know the law. It needs lawyers who remember why the law exists and who have the courage to stand tall in the tension between what’s legal and what’s right.

Congratulations! Maryland’s future is brighter because of you.

My Statement on the Supreme Court Decision on the Voting Rights Act:

“The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was written because generations of Americans, Black Americans in particular, were systematically locked out of the fundamental right that makes all other rights possible: the right to vote. Today, the Supreme Court dealt a devastating blow to that law, and to the people it was written to protect. This decision guts a signature achievement of the civil rights movement and moves the nation away from its highest ideals.

Maryland will not stand idly by as decades of civil rights protections are dismantled, nor will this Office stand down. I was proud to support the Maryland Voting Rights Act of 2026, which Governor Moore signed into law just yesterday. Maryland did not wait for Washington to act. We built our own backstop. Today’s ruling makes that law more important than ever.

The right to vote is the foundation of everything we are as a democracy. I will not stop fighting to defend it.”

Protecting Marylanders from fraud and financial exploitation is part of our work.

Today, on Administrative Professionals Day, I’m recognizing the professionals across our Office whose work keeps everything moving.

Every case, every event, every deadline depends on coordination, judgment, and follow-through—and that work is happening every day across this team.

Whether supporting cases, helping people find answers, or making sure nothing falls through the cracks, our administrative professionals play a critical role in how we serve Marylanders.

We won our case against Live Nation and Ticketmaster after a jury found they are monopolists who broke antitrust laws and used their power to limit competition.

That conduct drove up ticket prices and hurt fans, artists, and venues. This verdict holds them accountable, and we will keep working to bring fair play and competition back to the live music industry.

Today, I filed a lawsuit to stop the unlawful construction of a massive federal immigration detention center in Washington County. This project moved forward without required environmental review and public input. And, without consultation with Maryland. 

Federal officials have made clear they want deportations carried out with speed and speed only. We have seen where reckless enforcement tactics can lead—undermining due process and putting lives at risk.  

No administration is above the law. We will hold the federal government accountable.

Today, I testified in support of the Youth Charging Reform Act (SB 323), a priority bill to limit the number of young people charged in adult court. Children deserve age-appropriate accountability, support, and the opportunity to turn their lives around. This bill helps keep youth in a system focused on rehabilitation, not punishment.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of Black History Month—a century of honoring the people who shaped our nation and changed its direction. 

Here in Maryland, Black leaders don’t just make history. They push us forward—breaking barriers, expanding opportunity, and demanding justice when the times demand it.

When federal actions have put funding, rights, and essential services at risk, my office has stepped in — because that is our responsibility. Every day, we work to protect Marylanders, uphold the Constitution, and ensure the services people rely on remain secure.

In 2025, our legal work preserved billions in federal funding and defended the rights and dignity of communities across our state. I am proud of the attorneys and staff who carried out this work — and I want Marylanders to know this clearly: my Office will continue using every tool we have to protect our state, our people, and our future.
