I’m trying hard to salvage a two-state solution in 2025. But let’s be clear: we had a real chance in 2008. A deal that could’ve given us a sovereign Palestinian state. Borders based on ’67 lines. Land swaps that made sense (82% of settlers would’ve stayed inside Israel). A connection between Gaza and the West Bank. Two capitals in one city, side by side.

It wasn’t perfect, but it was possible. And we said no.

That choice haunts me. Because history doesn’t offer endless second chances. And because that deal recognized both peoples’ realities—our need for freedom, their need for security. It offered dignity and hope. And that’s why I support a two-state solution—but because it’s the only path that gives us both a future.

When opportunity knocks again, I hope we don’t walk away. We can't afford to miss another moment like 2008.

NO WINNERS IN THIS WAR
Israel will claim victory. Hamas will claim victory. But the people of Israel and the people of Palestine know that there are no winners. No one has won this war. This land, from the River to the Sea, is full of people who are suffering, who are in pain, who cannot celebrate victory. There are no winners in wars, only losers - and we have lossed big-time on both sides of this war. Don't believe those leaders who beat the drums of war and talk of victory. I assure you they are safe as they send us and our families to war. If we don't hold those leaders responsible for the disasters that they have led us to and if we don't get rid of those leaders to the waste bins of history, our losses will be compounded and maybe even deserved. We must hold our irresponsible leaders to own up to their failures. We cannot continue to kill each other. There is no military solution to the conflict. There is no viable option of an armed struggle. This must be the last Israeli-Palestinian war. We, the people of Israel and Palestine, must ensure that we start walking the path of real peace and justice. From this trauma we will emerge more committed to genuine peace than ever before! The Olmert / Alkidwa parameters were tested again in London with a new group of Israelis ( left, center, and right) and a new group of Palestinians ( WB, Jerusalem, Gaza, and diaspora) and they worked again and again. The majority of Israelis and Palestinians want the immediate end of war and support the two states' solutions. Our problem is leaders like Bibi and Abbas. In Syrien steht mehr auf dem Spiel als die Debatte über einen verweigerten Handschlag. Die ältesten jüdischen und christlichen Gemeinden leben in Syrien, die christlichen Aramäer, die noch die Sprache Jesu sprechen, haben eine über 2000 Jahre alte Kultur. Würde die EU jetzt nicht durch Kooperations-Angebote die minimale Chance auf Schutz der Minderheiten nutzen, wäre die Folge ein irreversibler Schaden, eine Tragödie auch für Alawiten, Drusen und Kurden. Wer auch immer in einer neuen Bundesregierung Außenminister wird, wird das fortsetzen, was die Außenminister aus 🇩🇪🇫🇷 jetzt begonnen haben. Alles kann scheitern, aber es wäre unverantwortlich, die Kooperation nicht versucht zu haben. Mit oder ohne Handschlag. Und unabhängig davon, ob in 🇩🇪 Wahlen sind. Die billige Polemik gegen die Reise zeigt den tiefen Hass, der sich selbst bei außenpolitischen Grundsatzfragen entlädt.
