EMPOWERING THE GIRL CHILD THROUGH EDUCATION: THE IMPACT OF HER EXCELLENCY Jeannette Kagame AND Imbuto Foundation IN RWANDA 🇷🇼❤️

The program that rewards high-achieving girls, widely known as “Inkubito y’ Icyeza” (Best Performing Girls), was created to fight gender inequality in education and to give girls confidence that they too can succeed. This prestigious recognition has become a powerful symbol that opens doors for future opportunities, as many former beneficiaries continue supporting one another through alumni networks such as FAWE and other institutions operating across different sectors of the country. The exemplary leadership of Madam Jeannette Kagame in this initiative has made the program a cornerstone in transforming the history and future of the girl child in Rwanda.

The awards are given according to different levels of education, with the number of beneficiaries decreasing as students advance academically: one girl from every sector among primary school graduates, one girl from every district among lower secondary graduates (S3), and five girls from each province among upper secondary school graduates. It is important to note that this award is not simply a school scholarship; it also includes cash prizes, books, and laptops for those completing secondary education.

Beyond receiving awards, these girls continue to benefit from mentorship programs and support networks.

These initiatives help them develop values such as discipline, good character, and a saving culture, while also encouraging them to support fellow students through small community and entrepreneurial projects. This long-term approach of following and supporting girls from primary school through higher levels of education proves that excellence is not limited to examination results alone, but also extends to personal growth and the overall development of the nation.
