I was sitting in art class, Ms. Bukowski was my art teacher. We were learning how to do perspective drawing. I was in the 7th grade. I was sitting next to Katie Tuttle, she sat to my left. Suddenly the janitor opened the door and rolled in a television on wheels. Ms. Bukowski was a little annoyed because he walked in without knocking and he started plugging the TV into the outlet without telling Ms. Bukowski anything. She finally said “can I help you?” And the janitor walked over to her, whispered in her ear, and her face got very serious as her mouth formed the word “oh.”
Suddenly an image formed on the television. I recognized the building that had smoke pillowing out of it at the very top. It was one of the twin towers. I’ve been to NYC, I’ve been in one of those two buildings before. In fact, I had just been inside one of the twin towers a little more than a month prior when my parents made a spontaneous decision to stay in NYC for a few days after our trip to Assateague Island ended in 2 of my 3 siblings getting severe sunburns. My family went to the top of the building as I stayed on ground level. I had and still have a paralyzing fear of heights, I don’t even like looking at or being around tall things. I remember telling Katie that I had just seen that building in NYC. She asked me if I went to the top. I lied to her and said “of course.” We continued working on our perspective drawing.
The bell rings and I go to study hall where there is another TV displaying the burning tower. This is the first time during the day where I realized that the adults were acting weird and something very bad was happening. At the time I simply thought the building was on fire and didn’t know why all the adults were making such a big deal about it. Anyways, I had just started working on my pre-algebra homework-we were learning how to isolate x. I remember my body jolted when my study hall teacher (Mr. Casey) yelled “oh shit!” When I looked up I saw that the second tower was on fire. I never returned back to my pre-algebra homework.
There was a helicopter showing closeups of the top of one of the towers. I could see people who were hanging their head out-I didn’t know they were doing that because they were trying to escape the fire that had enveloped everything. I then realized I was watching people jump to their death. Before I could process that we were being shown an image of smoke pillowing out of the pentagon. I remember Mr. Casey telling us that we were under attack and that we would always remember everything about this day. The bell rang and I went to Mrs. Showalter’s class for English. She was 8 months pregnant and bawling her eyes out. We don’t live far from NYC and the majority of us have family in NYC.
Things move fast once I’m in this class. The first tower fell. Images of a plane wreck in a field in Pennsylvania were then being shown. The Second tower then falls. We went to lunch. I wasn’t hungry. School let out at 2:45. I remember every conversation I had with my mom that day. I remember what we ate for dinner that night-Vendettis pepperoni rolls, pizza, and a Stromboli-my mom picked up the order and I went with her. I remember hugging my dad super tight when he got home from work that night. And I remember feeling mentally exhausted as I feel asleep that night.
I. Remember. Everything. About. That. Day. Absolutely everything. To this day I can still picture everyone I came across that day in full detail (down to the clothing they were wearing). I remember the names of all the teachers who lost someone that day. I remember the names of all the students who lost a parent that day.
But Blake can’t even remember where he slept that night? He doesn’t know where he was laying his head after he saw his friend die in such a gruesome way? He doesn’t know where he was laying down as his head started processing (probably for the very first time that day) what he had just witnessed and lost? Bullshit.
That’s not normal

I remember feeling so confused by the timeline of events that were unfolding on 9/11…when I saw this video I was shocked (and rightfully mortified) that Charlie had already had an autopsy, was embalmed, and was in a suit (which I assume is his own because it fits him well and this is a common thing for men to be buried in and you’re usually dressed in your own clothing for a wake/funeral, regardless-how did they get his suit transferred from AZ to UT so fast?) and was in a casket at what appears to be a wake ALL BEFORE HIS BODY WAS WAS TRANSFERRED BACK TO ARIZONA!!! This was all for show! The fact that she’s wearing a mic and has Stacy Sheridan recording this moment (and taking still pictures mind you) is deranged.
Looking back, this video was definitely the first red flag in a long series of red flags regarding Erika. After seeing this video I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt, I tried to rationalize her weird behavior away (I assumed she was grieving and hadn’t slept and therefore her judgment was off), but even if Erika was having a singular episode of psychosis where she thought this was normal behavior, she still had someone in the background holding a phone to record her (and get up close and personal by zooming in on her hands as she rubs Charlie’s hand). Stacy Sheridan recorded this video and then she edited/cut this video and sent it to Erika so Erika could post it on social media.
And now that I’m thinking about it, this was the video where I asked myself “where is her mom?” “Why doesn’t she have family members around her that could not only help her but interject when she wants to post a video of herself mourning over her dead husband’s body?”
Anyways. That’s my TedTalk! Erika Kirk gave me the ick almost immediately after Charlie’s death and I find it odd that Charlie happened to have his suit on standby while he was in Utah). Maybe I’m overthinking things…
