2024 Sports in Kansas 2A Defensive Player of the Year
Eli Johnson of Beloit, Sr. DL
Johnson (6โ6โ 240) had a dominating senior year for the Trojans and head coach Brad Gober as he registered 68 tackles, 17 TFLs and 8 sacks as he led the Trojans into the state semifinals where they had a heartbreaking loss in the final seconds to eventual champion Southeast of Saline. He also dominated on the offensive line. Johnson is one of the best multiple sport athletes in the state of Kansas and ranked #2 in all classes of Kansas last year in the shot put at over 59 feet. He has goals of mid 60s this season in the event and will be one of the top returnees in the country. He also was a second team 3A all state pick in basketball for the Trojans last year as he helped them to a third place finish in 3A. One of his older siblings (Sydney) was a Division I thrower at Mizzou. He becomes the second Trojan to win this award in recent memory as Grady Seyfert won it in 2021 & 2022. #sportsinkansas
Eli Johnson of Beloit (2A๐) is one of the states top multiple sport athletes. Johnson, a senior defensive lineman and offensive lineman, has registered 63 tackles, 15 TFL, and seven sacks this season for the 2A semifinalist Trojans. In basketball, he was a second team 3A all state pick from SIK. In track (3A) he is one of the best in any class of Kansas: Shot Put is 59-08.5 (#2 all classes Kansas), Discus is 170-7 (#12 all classes Kansas).
