"Remember to ask permission – ask if they want to share. For example, asking 'Is this a good time for you to check in?' as they may not always want to share. Also, watch for non-verbal cues. You may not even need to ask the question…they may already be telling you."
This good intention is responsible for the difficulty in changing behaviors. If we understood what we were saying was harmful, we would stop. But we know from children and teens that it is hurtful to them when they are not heard.

Throughout this month we want to share what grief feels like and means to many of our GriefWorks participants. Today we hear from one of our parent participants about the grief they feel for their loved one.
Listening to our kiddos during a time of flooding emotions and challenging to understand feelings plays a critical role during the grief process. Here are some things our children need from those stepping in to listen.
