Advocate of mixing ages in society - segregating ages reduces our richness of understanding and tolerance...hates the term 'kids' - prefers the term 'children'.
@MelAlyGreen Similar comments from my granddaughter who has just joined reception and grandson who has just started going to nursery school!! What can we do?
A pleasure today to be a panellist at webinar one in this @CoalitionEdCare series where a sizeable and engaged audience shared its knowledge, experience and expertise commenting on the government’s early years in schools initiative.
@ShobnaGulati Just finished reading your book Shobna! Could not put it down. Spent my childhood in Oldham/Royton. My dad Roy Butterworth did lots of work for your family and your father was my granddad's doctor. Totally admire your honesty and sincerity in your book 💗
‘Share your experiences – and help shape play policy’ - @ChildInTheCity1

The #RaisingTheNation Play Commission suported by @CfYoungLives needs your input and ideas to help shape policies that can improve children’s access to play.
An open call for evidence began in June, seeking input from individuals and organisations involved in all aspects of children’s play provision.
The closing date for submissions is 30 September, and it’s hoped that many more people, including parents, guardians, children and young people themselves, will share their ‘lived experiences’ of access to – or lack of it – play in their communities.
In particular, the commission is asking for feedback on the following questions:
- How do we boost learning through play?
- How do we expand places and environments where children can play?
- How can we use children’s right to play to ensure national and local government support children’s play?
- How do we provide children and families with more time to play?
- How do we harness technology and the digital world to boost children’s play?
- How do we encourage parents to play with their children and to encourage their children to play in the offline world?
@Paul_Lindley said there had been an ‘unforgivable absence of vision’ for creating play opportunities in recent years.

It's vitally important that the new government urgently address the decline in children's play over recent decades. This 👆🏼is why @PlayEngland are calling for meaningful change as part of the government’s legislative programme set out in the King's Speech, through the introduction of play sufficiency legislation and a new national play strategy ⤵️

Have you ever wondered how infants and toddlers developed their imagination? Did you know that when adults act as if they understand imaginary play they are swept along joyous play. Then they begin to initiate this play with the adults. Open access

Why are girls outperforming boys in creative thinking?
PISA Volume III found that boys significantly underperform girls in all types of creative tasks.
Previous PISA surveys found that girls also outperform boys in reading and other academic areas.

Lots of ideas here to reimagine the built environment to benefit children, adults, communities. Such thinking is also vital to reimagine digital spaces. In streets, the problem is the car. Online, the problem is the business model. #DigitalFutures4Children https://t.co/bHRQaNEJbt

Thank you to the 14,000+ people who dialled into my chat with the education sector today.
I want to reset the relationship between government & the workforce so we can be partners in the push for better.
I promise this will be just the start of our engagement, not a one off.
Today would have been @ShirleyHughes_ 97th birthday. To celebrate this day, we are releasing the recording of @ClaraVulliamy’s wonderful lecture ‘Shirley Hughes and Friends’ given at St Bride in March.
