Wonderful artwork by Jennie Vallis @JennieVallis (hope this is the tw. handle) inspired by our piece. Title would be "the stress of (social) life in the city"!?
Just done nearly a year of a weekly Diabetes clinic in north London. It’s like having weekly episodes of a documentary on inequality. Terrifying and emotional. The amount we are expected to fix in 15 minutes per patient is absurd. Naturally it never is just 15 minutes.
Fantastic talk by @AlePreteUoB at #SfEBES2021 on the EURINE-ACT study. Also a great application of GMLVQ machine learning, a powerful tool that we’re also using at @SMQB_UoB to improve diagnosis of endocrine conditions.
Besides common visible symptoms, women with #PCOS can also have insulin resistance and an increased risk of metabolic syndromes (abdominal obesity, high blood pressure, high blood glucose) and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (build-up of fat in the liver). #scicomm#sciart
I am delighted to share this paper on the role of MC3R in regulating growth, lean mass & pubertal timing in response to nutritional signals. Our findings may explain why, with rising obesity rates, humans are getting taller and entering puberty earlier

The total number of patients in ICU is fairly stable
However the fact that >25% of capacity is taken up by COVID patients (orange) is putting a squeeze on elective (planned -dark blue) cases
This means cancelled care or suboptimal care

The age-adjusted risk of deaths involving #COVID19 was 32 times greater in unvaccinated people than in fully vaccinated individuals between 2 Jan and 24 Sept 2021 https://t.co/P6ZSC2OrxI
We spend so much time rebutting bad faith arguments - often necessarily so - that it leaves us so little time to do the work that might push things forward for everyone.
It's day 1 at #SfEBES2021 in Edinburgh! I hope you're all looking forward to an endocrine-packed, educational and fun meeting! Come say hello in the exhibition at stands 9-10 and visit our publishing colleagues @bioscientifica on stands 7-8!

Social anxieties that lead people to be less at ease with others, less sociable and more stressed as they worry about others think of them are a powerful influence on the quality of life, but ignored in most QoL measures. https://t.co/EJBGB5nDbX
