1. Public employee leave should not be zeroed out. We want experienced, qualified people to return to serve the state with due credit for time served, regardless of absence.

@ludkmr @noisepromoter Kids here in town use the city bus as a de facto school bus to CHS and other schools. It's great but it feels coincidental. I wonder what it would take to improve the map that more consistently connects kids with their schools in a way that serves kids and also other riders.

Related, I also think there's a trend that is heaping ever-increasing emotional labor onto teachers because it is cheaper (read: frequently unpaid) than sustainably sharing that work across institutions and systems.

Don't know if unpopular opinion: Pre-service teachers are frequently told to "build relationships" with unclear rationale which can lead to a loss of important boundaries between Ts and Ss, emotional burnout for early career teachers, and negative consequences for students, so...

A pre-service teacher just asked me the most excellent question, so I will ask it to you.

"In your experience, what has helped you most in building good relationships with students? If you could converge it to just one specific thing?"

...the relationship is then not contingent on a child's emotional response but rather less conditional and within the adult's professional responsibility and capacity. It also provides a safer and appropriate off-ramp when the relationship ends, as most teacher-student ones do.

@DrKillgrove @ryanbee Buses from my neighborhood serve magnet programs in other parts of the district and leave and return at reasonable times, some a shorter ride by time than my non-magnet. LEAP serves at most 5% according to most recent data. The sight above is common at other schools.

@ryanbee I understand some hesitation given bus instability over the past 2 years but the district has made a good effort to settle thing outs and while it's not all the way back, missing school buses are far less frequent now. I hope more families come back to it to start next year.
