Paschall v. IRS is getting quoted as the end-all staking ruling but it’s really just about custodial platforms (like eToro).

The court basically said if the platform earned it and paid you, it’s income to you. Makes sense.

What didn’t get answered is whether you earn it yourself through self-custody validation. That’s still wide open.

Also the Paschalls represented themselves, so they were already fighting with one hand tied behind their back…
