🌌 Astronomers just confirmed a magnetar that is emitting the strongest magnetic field ever measured in the universe 100 billion times stronger than Earth’s...
The star’s field is so intense it warps the fabric of spacetime itself and powers violent X ray bursts every few minutes.
This is the first time we’ve directly measured a magnetar field this extreme.

🔴 MAVEN went silent on December 6, 2025. Passed behind Mars and never came back.
NASA officially declared it dead today 11 years and 3 months after it launched for what was supposed to be a one year mission.
In that time it answered one of the most important questions in planetary science: why did Mars lose its oceans. The answer was the Sun. Without a magnetic field, solar wind slowly stripped the Martian atmosphere away over billions of years. Atom by atom. Century by century. Until the pressure dropped so low that liquid water could no longer exist on the surface.
MAVEN also discovered a type of aurora on Mars nobody knew existed. Mapped its high altitude winds. Produced over 800 published scientific papers. And spent years silently relaying communications between Earth and the rovers on the surface Curiosity and Perseverance both depended on it to phone home.
The spacecraft that taught us why Mars died also kept our robots on Mars alive long enough to tell us what remains.
I find that quietly remarkable....
