the fail state for me is how the scene doesn't hit or simply isn't cool if I fuck it up, the fact I didn't encounter any "fail states" on my run of this during my playthrough was what made it such a highlight.
gamers in 2026 simply hate whimsy and that's fine but just say so.
It's utterly ridiculous that we have all these supposed billionaire geniuses running around, and their greatest innovation of our lifetime has been stealing our personal data to sell us targeted ads.
Dear Microsoft, when I hit the Windows Start menu key and start typing a word to autocomplete a search, I never, ever, EVER want it to return results of something not on my computer. Ever. Like, ever, ever, never.
This is just like being alive in the 1600s when they got good at making complicated clocks and deduced that every complicated thing in the universe probably functioned exactly like a clock
Google DeepMind researcher argues that LLMs can never be conscious, not in 10 years or 100 years.
"Expecting an algorithmic description to instantiate the quality it maps is like expecting the mathematical formula of gravity to physically exert weight."
I heard a highly insightful take on this from a colleague who spent a long time in Big Tech:
In 2010-2020, an insane amount of money started sloshing around in the Tech industry. A huge amount of people with no aptitude or interest become "software engineers", because $250K TC
Examples:
- An "API" is a Python program running in Docker that returns JSON over HTTP
- A "database" is a Postgres container
- A "front-end" must be written in ReactJS
- It's better to avoid writing code. Always look for code someone else wrote instead
- "Production" is always on AWS
- Performance doesn't matter, because I/O is always the bottleneck
- There is something called "scale" which you will eventually "hit", after which writing applications normally no longer works, and to prepare for this it's important to smash your program into tiny pieces and scatter them to the winds (this is often a self-fulfilling prophecy)
- Copying trends from the biggest companies is always a good idea
@Playerinthgame Let's not even call it lying, or hallucination. Those are traits of a human or conscious being. It's a probability error in the data retrieval. LLMS are sequential probability machines. LLMS don't 'think'.
@TheAlexSylvian Imagine the pain of being a right winger and hearing a jacked all American christian beat up a chubby English immigrant who tried to stop the American from biking with his kids and having to side with the English guy out of political loyalties.
I used to think one of the most unrealistic parts of Reacher was dudes who were clearly not in his league physically constantly fucking with him and starting fights but turns out nope
@CrowfaceBirdman@TheSmalIHumph That's why the most important part of wrestling is the "story" and stakes. I believe they lied that Andre and Hulk had never had a match and that Andre had never been body slammed. Also Andre had been out of the ring for a few years and had (I think) never been a heel.
