KOBE. LEBRON. WEMBY.
Victor Wembanyama joins Kobe Bryant in 2001 and LeBron James in 2007 as the only players this century to lead their team in scoring entering the Finals at 22 or younger 🤯
65 points on all jump shots would be a crazy thing to want a player to do.
Kobe did almost do it though, he had like 4 shots in the paint this game and 11 made free throws. But otherwise all jumpers
Jordan cultists LOVE this season, but hate the 1994 season
Just so I can jog your memory....
1994:
Jordan misses 82 games
Bulls go 55-27
1998:
Pippen misses 44 games
They went 36-8 WITH Pippen
They went 26-12 WITHOUT Pippen
Overall 62-20
Interesting?
@streethistory yeah i mean what theeee fuck. god forbid, but what if Wemby gets hurt? the Thunder just punted on the best young team in a decade because of one guy?
@TulaneTiger maybe my idea of what "catapult" meant in your initial tweet is different than how you intended because sure, if we are saying part of his ascent as a player continued all the way through that 4th championship then i can't argue with any of this. i was not framing it that way
LeBron simply got better. league wide offense was actually better in 2007 than it was in 2012 and 2013.
he was a 22 year old with a clear flaw in his game that it took running into the best team in the league in the finals to exploit.
I remember watching this and wondering how a superstar player could have a jumper and handle that bad. Hours in the gym and the game evolving to having more space really catapulted him.
@TulaneTiger like man i don't think you are wrong that spacing helped LeBron, that is obvious. it is just the idea that it materially changed his trajectory or something like that. The dude was going to peak like he did whether his teammates could shoot or not.
@TulaneTiger the 2012 Heat attempted 15.6 threes a game. The least any team LeBron has played on since 2005. and they won their first title.
LeBron himself however, went from a 33% 3pt shooter in 2011 to a 36% 3pt shooter in 2012
the more he trusted his own jumper, the better he played
Anytime u hear someone say “ethical hoops” 99 percent of the time they don’t know or play basketball. If they did, they’d know all scorers sell calls lol.
@JamesF84 Yeah or just have Kobe develop in an NBA that encouraged less one on one and more lever pulling on offense. That run to end 2013 before his achilles popped was maybe my favorite version of him
@TulaneTiger No evidence his game took off because of spacing no. Hours in the gym sure, its just the idea that his game took off with spacing is clearly inaccurate. He won all 4 mvps before the spacing boom.
Spacing definitely one factor that extended his prime though
