On 04 August, a violent thunderstorm with heavy rain and hail passed over Reutlingen in Baden-Württemberg, turning the city center into a winter wonderland.
Despite the predicted uninterrupted #heatwaves, winter service vehicles were deployed. The #hailstones were 1-2cm in size and the hail layer was 30cm. The sewage system was quickly clogged by the hailstones and torn off leaves and streets were flooded.
The level of the Echaz River also rose by 1.5m in a few minutes.

❓So is it warming or cooling?
You can joke about the #climate, or ignore its deadly grin....

About 30,000 people were evacuated from the island of #Rhodes in Greece because of forest fires. 2 thousand of them were rescued directly from the beach, in swimsuits.
Tourists and locals were placed in gyms and schools, local media reported. Because of the fire blocked several roads - the fire has already destroyed hundreds of hectares of forest on the island.
The disaster has been raging in #Greece for several days - evacuation of people continues, houses and cars have been damaged. The situation is aggravated by record heat and wind gusts.

To most people, the word "drought" may not seem like something terrible. However, prolonged periods of drought can cause as much damage as the most severe natural #disasters, causing crop failures, #famine, and a #water crisis.

☀️ #URUGUAY: For several months now, the capital of Uruguay has been experiencing its worst drought in at least 70 years. As of the end of June 2023, the Paso Severino reservoir reached a historic low and holds less than 3% of its normal capacity.

☀️ EUROPE: As recently as last summer, drought and water shortages were a serious disaster for the European continent as well. According to experts’ predictions, access to fresh water may soon become one of the biggest problems in the region.

The #UnitedNations Development Program (#UNDP) said that nearly 1.1 billion people in 110 countries around the world live in a situation of acute multidimensional #poverty.

According to the report, most of these people live in sub-Saharan Africa, with 534 million living in poverty, and another 389 million in South Asia. Five out of six poor people live in these two regions (July 11, Prensa Latina).

Establishing facts but not preventing risks is the essence of the consumerist format of society.
