$2.1 billion in salaries since 2019 is the number getting all the attention. The number that actually explains GTA 6's timeline is $710 million.

That's how much the GTA franchise generated last fiscal year. Thirteen years after launch. GTA 5 is still selling 20 million copies a year at full price. GTA Online still has 22 million monthly active players spending real money on virtual cars and apartments. The franchise has cleared over $10 billion lifetime and the annual revenue curve is barely declining.

This is the part every "most expensive game ever" headline misses. Rockstar isn't slow because $3 billion is hard to spend. Rockstar is slow because GTA 5 is still a $700 million per year business and every prior console generation transition has shown significant revenue disruption during the handoff.

When GTA 4 launched, GTA San Andreas revenue collapsed. When GTA 5 launched, GTA 4 went to zero overnight. The installed base resets. The online economy resets. The microtransaction flywheel that took a decade to build resets. Day one of GTA 6 is also the last day of GTA Online's current economy.

If GTA 6 launches and the online mode takes 18 months to reach GTA Online's current engagement levels, that's over a billion dollars in opportunity cost during the transition window. If it takes longer, the number gets worse.

The $3 billion development cost isn't the risk. The risk is killing a $700 million annual revenue stream before its replacement is ready to print at the same rate. Every delay is Rockstar protecting the most profitable entertainment product ever made while making sure its successor can match that run rate on arrival.

The game will ship when the online infrastructure is bulletproof. The single player campaign has probably been done for a while.

When people bring up complaints about the light (power) situation in Nigeria, nothing frustrates me more than those who reply with statements like:

"It's your area that's bad",
"In my estate, we have almost 24 hours light",
"Move to a better place".

It's absurd to hear such statements because the people complaining about the light aren't living in the Atlantic ocean, they're living in the same Nigeria. Our national grid dependably generates ~5,000 MW for a population of over 200 million people! That's unfathomably small, especially when you compare it to our neighbours, Ghana - who generate a similar capacity for a population smaller than 20% of ours.

So if you have "constant light" in your area, take a step back and consider yourself lucky, while acknowledging the obvious problem. Choosing to stay out of touch and making stupid statements similar to the above examples given does not look good on you.

There's a power infrastructure problem in our country, and your estate's "constant light" is hardly representative of the national situation.

Today at the FCT Command of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja, I confronted the Minister of Works, David Umahi inside a conference room where police operatives had effectively set up shop for him to harass a woman who a used him of owing her and making a pass at her years ago.

A married woma, TracyNither Nicolas Ohiri had been illegally arrested in Lagos on allegations of “cyberbullying,” flown to Abuja, and detained.

Her alleged offense was accusing David Umahi of owing her N250 million for over 12 years, a claim that, at its core, is a civil dispute.

Rather than treat the matter as such, the police escalated it into a criminal spectacle. After unlawfully detaining her, the police facilitated a meeting in which Umahi was brought into the command to threaten, intimidate, and denigrate her inside a police facility until we arrived and they immediately dismantled the “interview” and Umahi left, angry.

After Umahi lef, they redused to grant her bail or release her, we later learnt Imahi promosed that shes not seen anything on his way out of the FCT police command.

Let me deep somethings for Nigerians, maybe it would spark a bit of anger.

A 9-5 pays PAYE (Pay as you earn) to the respective states yeah?
So, if I’m earning 300k as net salary, then my gross would be 370k issh.

Would roughly pay 41k as PAYE.

Now what’s that 41k supposed to cover?
The basic amenities like - water running to your house, electricity, good road network, wastage system, gas, security etc. yeah?

Now, that my 41k is supposed to be part of other people’s 41k, 3k, 100k and even 1m PAYE so we can get common amenities. Where we have to then pay maybe a subsidized amount to maintain these things from my 300k

So, in essence, I will pay 41k to have those amenities and maybe another 30k from my 300k to have access to those services on a monthly.

Now, here lies the problem- We provide water light and security for ourselves, yet we pay government taxes to provide same.

I have paid the 41k to government, and I am going out there to provide another 50-60k to get same thing I have paid before to government. Isn’t that like double taxation?

Let’s start from waste disposal- they don’t come, so you call Beruwa.
Water - no government water, so you build boreholes, buy pumping machines and buy tanks.
Gas - Government of Nigeria doesn’t even know that exists
Electricity- no stable light, so you have to buy generator or solar to sustain. Keep buying fuel etc or doing maintenance on solar.

Now if any of you deep it, that money you are using for all these things are actually supposed to be your savings for the future.

That 3m for solar, that’s money that if invested would help you on the future. Or calculate the fuel money you buy every 3days or the money you pay for electricity to pump water. Compound that money and you should actually have savings.

And yet, we don’t even hold our government accountable anymore

So, you earn 300k, you paid tax of 41k already for basic things, you still end of paying another 50-60k to get those basic things by yourself.
You haven’t even considered food or travels or transportation or shopping or sending money to family. But you are already short by 60k
