๐ฌ New Insights on Preventing Esophageal Strictures After ESD
Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is a powerful tool for removing gastrointestinal neoplasms โ but postoperative esophageal stenosis (PES) remains one of its most challenging complications.
๐ก Our latest SRMA (16 studies, 1,056 patients) shows that steroid administration significantly reduces PES rates and decreases the need for endoscopic balloon dilatation (EBD) โ all without increasing adverse events.
๐ Key takeaways:
๐ PES risk reduced with steroids (OR = 0.36).
๐ Fewer EBD sessions were required (MD = โ1.20).
๐ Systemic steroids outperformed local steroids
๐ Prednisolone more effective than triamcinolone
โฑ๏ธ Timing of administration did not affect outcomes
โ Bottom line: Steroid therapy is a safe and effective strategy to prevent PES after ESD, with systemic prednisolone showing the greatest clinical benefit.

Honored to present my internal medicine senior grand rounds today! I loved teaching residents how to do research and why research is important in residency!
Grateful for @unlvmedicine and @VManneMD for the support!
Proud of our new paper in @GastroPractical! We compare EUS-FNA with ROSE vs EUS-FNB with MOSE. The decision should be guided by hospital resources, endoscopist preference, and need for immediate evaluation. Thank you @DouglasAdlerMD for the mentorship!
