BIG CHANGE:
YOU CAN NOW OFFICIALLY
GENERATE ELECTRICITY FOR YOURSELF, USE WHAT YOU NEED, AND SELL EXCESS ELECTRICITY BACK TO THE GRID THROUGH YOUR DISCO
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has commenced the Net Billing Regulations 2026, a new framework that allows eligible electricity users to generate power mainly through solar energy for their own use and export excess electricity back to the distribution network.
In simple terms, if your solar system generates more electricity than you consume, you can now send the extra power back to your DisCo and receive credits under a regulated billing arrangement.
This effectively creates what the sector calls a “Prosumer” ;meaning you are both a consumer and producer of electricity.
However, there are conditions.
This is not yet targeted at the average small residential solar setup.
To qualify:
-You must already be connected to a DisCo network.
-Your renewable energy system must have a minimum installed capacity of 50kWp and a maximum of 1.5MWp
-You must obtain approval from your DisCo.
-You must sign a Net Billing Agreement and register with NERC.
Approved users will receive bidirectional meters that track: ➡️Electricity imported from the grid
⬅️Electricity exported back to the grid

Building on the landmark joint venture agreement initiated at the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF), the Nigeria Commodity Exchange (NCX) yesterday hosted a strategic follow-up meeting with representatives from the African Export-Import Bank (@Afreximbank).
Discussions centered on the formal establishment of the National Export Trading Company—Nigeria's first dedicated export trading entity, driven by Afreximbank’s African Trade and Distribution Company (ATDC) framework.
To fast-track this milestone project, both teams focused on harmonizing existing institutional structures and aligning operating models.
Once fully operational, the National Export Trading Company will serve as a powerful catalyst for Nigeria’s trade ecosystem. By aggregating value-added agricultural and industrial goods, streamlining logistics, and unlocking structured access to regional and global markets under the AfCFTA, this partnership is set to transition Nigeria from a primary exporter of raw materials to a dominant hub for high-value finished products.
Together, we are securing the value chain and positioning Nigerian commodities at the forefront of global trade.

Nigeria🇳🇬 has significantly reduced its dependence on oil, with oil revenue dropping from about 75% to 25% of government income in the last decade.
Tax revenue, especially from non-oil sources, now constitutes nearly 87% of total federation revenue.
Non-oil taxes account for over 70% of tax collections, rising from 25% in 2010 to about 75.9% in 2024/2025.
Between 2022 and 2025, Nigeria’s annual tax revenue nearly tripled, driven primarily by growth in non-oil tax collections.
The hall came alive as dignitaries, industry leaders, and stakeholders gathered in full force for the IATF2027 Hosting Agreement Signing Ceremony. A powerful display of partnership, capacity, and collective commitment to the forthcoming IATF 2027!
