February 11th, 2024 I went to the doctor for a routine physical and was told at 32 years old that I needed to go to a specialist for an EKG because a portion of my heart looked like I had a heart attack. The whole ride home from the dr I thought about my wife and son and how I couldn’t imagine thinking about not being there to protect them and see my 4 year old son grow up. I was 326.4 lbs and the heaviest I’d been in my entire life. I decided that enough was enough and I was going to make a change for my family. I went home, got out of my truck and started walking around my neighborhood. When I got back to my house after a mile, I was gassed and embarrassed. That turned into a Peloton bike that I worked out on and lifted in front of almost every day since then. That bike turned into a treadmill and adjustable dumbbells and my alarm going off at 4:40 every morning to work out before school and practice. I’ve made changes to my lifestyle so I can be there for my wife and son for as long as God will allow me to be. This morning I got on the scale and saw exactly 225 lbs which has been my goal since March 20th, 2024 when we first got the Peloton bike. I hated the way I looked in pictures,
I am not posting this to get people to say congratulations or talk about how great it is. It’s to let everyone know that it’s never too late to make yourself better for your family! I ask my players to give me the best version of themselves everyday but I was not living up to that standard that I set for them. It wasn’t always easy and there were days that I didn’t have motivation to workout but you cannot set a standard without living up to the standard. As parents, teachers, and coaches, we spend so much of our day pouring ourselves into other people that by the end of the day, we don’t have much left for ourselves but always make sure you remember that you need love too.
Don’t ever forget to discipline yourself daily to be physically fit for life!
After a great conversation with Coach Wheatley, I am excited to announce my first offer from Wayne State University. I would like to thank God, parents, also my coaching staff. @CoachKendal84 , @ihoops_tank, @CoachJ757 @Coach_Church757, @Mariowoodscoach
