We understand people are very concerned about #COVID19. We want to remind you that most people who become infected don’t become seriously ill & fully recover. We have the following recommendations to protect vulnerable members of our community from the virus & slow its spread:
@HabenGirma talks about the challenges brought by incorporating new tech like touch screens into everyday objects: “As we build technology we need to make sure it’s accessible to everyone, even [seemingly small things like] coffee machines and elevators.” #ChurchillClub
“Ableism is hidden in our culture and a lot of people don’t know about it. We need to train more people about it. Conversations like that will help everyone recognize ” explains @HabenGirma Disability Rights Lawyer, Speaker and Author #DiversityandInclusion@ChurchillClub
@CrosbyCromwell of @getflexability makes the eloquent bridge between the tech community and the disabled community by sharing two traits members of these talented groups do every day — problem-solve and innovate. #ChurchillClub
When it comes to smarter technology for a diverse community, @PaulJ_Walsh from @Lenovo emphasizes the importance to hire diverse talent. “People with disabilities are great customers, great designers, great engineers and more.” #ChurchillClub
As we begin our discussion, @HabenGirma shares thoughts on hiring - “Disabled people have alternative techniques. Sometimes those alternative techniques are superior to mainstream techniques. If you don’t know how a disabled person will do the job, ask.” #ChurchillClub
“There is going to be technology not too far out in the future like Yelp… that will help you discover how to delete your data.” Thanks to everyone who joined us last night for @ChurchillClub's event on the new era of data privacy, including insights from @SecuritiAI's @R_Jalil!
#JimDempsey suggests that regulation should focus on AI and data with employment, housing, credit, insurance: Think about fairness… what is fair in using this information to make decisions about people” that will impact their lives?
Because it is so difficult for a user to navigate every company’s privacy user experience, @R_Jalil says, “There is going to be technology not too far out in the future like Yelp… that will help you discover how to delete your data.”
How will technology business models change in the age of CCPA? @jimsteyer says “There’s going to be a really interesting discussion on whose data it is and who is being compensated.”
@puiwingtam gets right to the point and asks the panel: “Let’s talk about these big companies and whether their business models will actually change with the CCPA and GDPR.”
@R_Jalil: “If privacy is a human right, how do companies generally comply?... That’s not easy.” To which #JimDempsey describes the complexity of app installation “the enemy of privacy.”
