UPDATE: WE GOT THE CARD BACK!!
Well, that was an unexpected and nice turn of events. What a rollercoaster of a weekend.
We were able to set up a meeting with the person my son dealt with at the Pokemon XP trading zone. It was an unpleasant confrontation, but at least the right thing got done, and we're grateful.
I realize that recovering my son's card wouldn't have been possible without the Pokemon community's amazing support. Special shout outs to @DeepPocketMnstr, @dyli_io, @nickabouzeid, @tim_liu@ScottPytlik, and countless others I should be naming here, but I'm exhausted.
We're so grateful, all of you, for your support.
I do wish to address those of you who heaped vitriol toward me and my son this weekend: I just want to reiterate that our only goal of sharing this story was to make a plea for adults to not take advantage of kids in these enthusiast communities. We never desired for clout in the Pokemon community; we don't desire to be Pokemon influencers; nor did we expect any gifts or free things.
Some of you have insisted in sending my son some things to compensate for his earlier loss. We're grateful. We will carefully inventory the value of all items shared with him, and our family commits to donating the equivalent cash to @StJude Children's Research Hospital, an organization we truly admire and support.
Thank you again. I'm so over all of this, and this will be my final comment on the matter.
God bless!
holy sh*t,
I remember watching this guy close to a decade ago breaking down the TCG market in high level quant terms - dudes level of understanding about trading cards is literally insane.
