​Despite Manchester United’s assurances that digital NFC tickets are fully secure, a major flaw in the @SeatGeek ticketing platform leaves supporters highly vulnerable to unauthorised access. By knowing a fan's Supporter ID and just their surname or postcode, anyone can unauthorisedly view, download, and use their tickets without the owners knowledge.

This has already resulted in legitimate ticket holders being turned away at both home and away matches because their tickets had already been scanned.

​The issue was deliberately kept quiet during the season to minimise disruption, but with the Premier League aiming for fully digital tickets next season, it must be prioritised over the summer. The risk is exacerbated by a club culture where fans have widely shared their Supporter IDs for ticket-forwarding purposes, and instances where Manchester United emails have inadvertently exposed this information. The author urges @SeatGeek and the club to implement a secure, user-led authorizlsation process rather than relying on flawed off-the-shelf solutions.

Fans’ groups including those from Manchester City and Manchester United, West Ham and Spurs, Everton and Liverpool, are joining forces and calling on Premier League broadcast partners to pressurise clubs into curtailing ticket price hikes. Fans want rights-holders to urge clubs to “reverse the greed and the unfair pricing structures which ultimately will destroy the product”. On the attack on concessions, Andy Payne, from Hammers United and chair of West Ham's Fan Advisory Board says, “All fans want to see is the young, old and vulnerable have their concessions returned and protected. Sadly my Father (Vincent Killeen) lost his brave battle against cancer yesterday. The last game we watched together was the Wolves game, just the two of us in his hospital room. When Wolves equalised we were both so frustrated. I have never willed United to score more than that moment and then Kobbie Mainoo steps up with an amazing winner. Seeing Dads arm in the air, a smile on his face and declaring “that’s why you watch United”. When he saw that you were doing an interview, he insisted that I stay so he could listen. I know football should be about winning trophies, but you will never score a more important goal for our family Kobbie. You are already a hero in our household and you are now my 7 year olds favourite player. Thank you for a truly brilliant and special moment. I am sure your career will bring many of them.
