To the young people of #Rwanda, being young is not enough. You cannot afford to waste any opportunity. Do not let the fear of failure or taking risks stand in the way of who you can be. Claim your rightful place in the world, no one will hand it to you
We remember the victims. We honour the lives stolen. We acknowledge the suffering that endures. At the General Assembly, we marked the International Day of Reflection on the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, reaffirming that the prevention of genocide requires action - early and decisive and from all of us. Our joint task is clear: To counter hate speech. To stand against discrimination. And to prevent dehumanization - wherever it occurs.
Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame led on Tuesday the 32nd commemoration of the genocide against the Tutsis.
Nearly one million people were killed in 100 days in 1994.
Today marks the beginning of Kwibuka 32. 32 years since the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
As Rwandans know, but others may not, the word “Kwibuka” is a Kinyarwanda word. It means “To Remember.”
@solaafghanistan arrived in Rwanda five years ago this summer. Our community was welcomed on the very night we landed, the very night we stepped off planes with only what we could carry on our backs.
That welcome has never wavered. Not for a single day since that summer of 2021. We have put down roots here, and my appreciation and gratitude for Rwanda and the Rwandan people is unbreakable. We have found neighbors here. We have found friends. We have found a home.
Remember. Unite. Renew.
Today, #UNHCR South Africa stands in solemn solidarity with the Rwandan High Commission in Pretoria and the entire UN Family to observe #Kwibuka32.
Thirty-two years ago, the world witnessed one of the darkest chapters in human history. As we honor the memory of the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, we also pay tribute to the resilience of the survivors who have worked tirelessly to rebuild a nation defined by peace and reconciliation.
Together with our partners in South Africa and across the globe, we reflect on the lessons of the past to build a future where every individual can live in safety and dignity.

Today we marked the International Day of Reflection on the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.
More than one million women, children and men were murdered in just one hundred days in one of the darkest chapters of human history.
« Genocide begins long before the killing — with exclusion, dehumanisation, and the belief that some lives matter less. »

No speech, no song and no UN resolution can express the sorrow caused by the 1994 Genocide perpetrated against the Tutsi, more than the pictures of women, men and children whose lives were shattered during the 100 days of horror.

We honor the victims and survivors of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. Their stories remind us why remembrance, justice, and prevention matter. Their advocacy paved the way for survivors of conflict-related sexual violence globally. #Kwibuka
