Here's a new one. Researchers found that AI coding assistants often invent software package names that don't actually exist. Attackers figured out which fake names the AI tends to make up, registered those names first, and packed them with malicious code. So when a developer asks the AI to grab a "popular" tool, it can pull down the attacker's booby-trapped version and run it. If your business uses AI tools to build or automate anything, this is a reminder that AI output needs a human check before it runs. Convenient isn't the same as safe.

While your employee thinks they're registering a passkey, the attacker is quietly registering their own on the account, and now they've got a way in. The tell? Real passkey setup happens on your device, not through a website a caller sends you. If a "Microsoft rep" phones asking you to enroll anything, hang up and verify.

Sophos researchers found that AI coding agents like Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex are tripping the same security alerts built to catch real attackers.

Why? Because they do attacker-looking things: running PowerShell commands, accessing stored credentials, modifying piles of files, authenticating to cloud services. And here's the kicker - Sophos says those alerts aren't false positives. The behavior is genuinely risky no matter who's behind it.
