@rabbriansamuel At any point you can stop hospice . You call the provider and tell them you are stopping because you want treatment . When you take them to the ER , their Medicare will be back in place and they can receive treatment. You can restart hospice it at any time.
@drklam@JAMAInternalMed Most of the time the basic level of assistance with avoiding falls, managing medications and help with ADLS provides for safety and quality of life. Where as, health issues requiring a licsenced nurse are thankfully not as common.
@drklam@JAMAInternalMed Seniors and their adult children have difficulty discussing the realities and daily challenges that exist when mobility issues and or cognitive issues are chronic. Even the simple question of, “ could you get out of this house quickly in an emergency?”is met with surprise
@drklam@JAMAInternalMed I am a Registered Nurse and I work with people who are making decisions about home care, ALFs or SNFs. My discussions center around their current quality of life and safety. There is great confusion about the differences in the services provided.

Thanksgiving hack: go watch football until all the big dishes are done and then after everyone is done eating pie, walk around and ask “are you done?” (make yourself seen) picking up the little dessert plates that are basically halfway clean already. Bonus if they’re paper plates
