Up until today, the Belgian film posters are unique in design and finishing! In addition, the exhibition provides more explanation about the 26 cinemas active in Ghent on the heydays of the poster art between 1938 and 1961.
>> About the collection @Stadgent
Until the 1960s, it was customary for a foreign (e.g., American) film shown in Belgian cinemas to have a separate film poster for the Belgian film public. The Belgian film distributors turned to specialized advertising printers in Brussels.
The Belgian poster was given a French and Dutch translation of the original title, but also a new design. The Belgian illustrators, who worked under contract for the printers, based themselves on the publicity material they received from the distributors.
The first ECA event in Ghent has started with an exhibition of 150 of the most beautiful film posters from a unique collection of 9000! i.c.w. @Stadgent https://t.co/WmuXxeOrFU
