To people from other countries, please remember what is happening right now. One day, your culture might be appropriated without permission for someone else's benefit, only for them to brush it off by saying,
“It’s just a fictional city.”
Thailand is extremely well-known for producing BL series, and a series starring popular BL actors can easily gain global attention.
When that happens, most viewers won't stop to wonder which country's traditional attire they are actually seeing. The impression left on the majority of audiences may simply be that “this is Thai culture.”
Today, it happens to be Myanmar's culture and traditional attire caught up in this controversy. Tomorrow, it could just as easily be your country's culture in the same situation.
GMMTV has taught us one important lesson: how crucial it is to preserve our cultural heritage, and just how united we can be when a crisis hits. I'm taking notes.
See you when the series airs...
@Etatae333 Thailand is Buddhist country too. GMMTV disrespected Buddhist teachings: the dance they are performing for men as courting dance in series originally come from Myanmar Rakhine State, whereas Rakhine Myanmar use it to perform religious devotion to Buddha. #RespectMyanmarCulture
I am just a girl studying abroad. My American friend saw the trailer and saying those are Thailand’s cultures. She is calling me out that those are used in Thai’s series and no credit ,so it is Thai’s. Can Chinese, Cambodias,Laos and Myanmar send proofs?🥺

Cambodia taught Myanmar, that some culture lending in dramas, movies will later become losing your culture permanently. At least, give our oil lamps back cuz we have to show religious devotion to Buddha in October.Use your own candle to perform men to court.#RespectMyanmarCulture
