The ownership splits of each Drake album tells the entire story of his business relationship with UMG.

Someone told him a long time ago that the value of what he brings to UMG & what UMG provides for him are equal. It’s funny because his fans today would tell you (unprovoked) he brings more value to UMG than they to him. Only problem is, DRAKE doesn’t believe it. Now if he was influenced/advised by someone to give away all of his leverage, that’s a different conversation. But there is no way you can have all this talent, all the leverage, have all of the great creative relationships throughout the industry, be mentored by Lil Wayne, Birdman, AND J Prince… but end up signing these egregious deals. Boy career started in 2009 & still a slave in 2026. With the audacity to ask Kendrick to see his splits 😭

You dig a bit deeper & realize UMG sold the allusion of independence to this d*mb n*gga & he bought it every time. Even on the albums where OVO is listed, Republican is still eating off of it. And Republican is owned by, you guessed it… UMG.

3 slices of an album with mad producers & countless writers. Credited or uncredited.

Now since his fans are obsessed with comparing him to JAY-Z… Hov owns his albums by himself. Except Reasonable Doubt, & that’s split with his real life friend, Biggs. Not UMG or any other label 😭. Also, JAY-Z’s closest understudies all own their masters & are actually independent. Rihanna & J. Cole.

Now just to further drive home the point that Drake is LEVELS below Hov:

JAY-Z can release an album under S. Carter Enterprises, distribute it through Roc Nation, & stream it on Tidal.

3 separate companies HE OWNS or has equity in. It’s called being “integrated vertically”. True independence. It’s more independent than someone like Chance The Rapper because he still has to distribute his music through services he doesn’t own. Being integrated vertically is what Nipsey Hussle preached about. In fact Roc Nation manages Nipsey’s estate & Marathon is integrated vertically. Lauryn & his kids are set for life through the brilliance of Nip, & the direct influence of JAY-Z.

JAY-Z is more independent than any other artist, ever. Which is why he has the biggest target on his back. & these silly ass sl^ves are gladly helping MAGA take down someone they once claimed to admire.
