@BretSalmon@Tablesalt13 So much of this is so clearly hormonal - not all, but a lot. the hormones drop & the activation energy needed for the Libido goes up.
Academic writing should be addressed neither to the public nor to other academics. It should be addressed to a single interlocutor with whom you have a petty rivalry and whose work you are trying to discredit
@AFpost Isn't that what we'd expect if women's grad degrees are disproportionately concentrated in Baumol's-affected sectors like healthcare and education? I don't think it means we need fewer nurse practitioners (altho we might need fewer M.Eds)
@RizomaSchool This clip is from the audience of the Oprah Winfrey show. She became a billionaire doing good television, not good anthropology. 40% of white Americans agreed with the verdict in 1995, albeit less enthusiastically, &~30% thought OJ didn’t do it.
@wesyang At the time of the verdict 30% of white people thought OJ wasn't guilty & 40% agreed with the verdict. Why can't they celebrate that a black celeb was afforded the same reasonable doubt as a white celeb?
Karmelo Anthony is a local+twitter thing.
NEW: malware developers added nuclear & biological weapons text to to their spyware.
Goal? To trigger LLM safety refusals... so that their spyware wouldn't be analyzed by an AI security scanner.
Cleanest practical example I can think of for why over-indexing on first order safety alignment is risky.
When closed (and open) models ship with aggressive refusals, they will be sprinkled with second-order blindspots that attackers will discover...and exploit.
We are only in the earliest days of attackers leveraging these features, and it wouldn't surprise me if users systems that need to handle complex cybersecurity issues demand that models be less safety-blunted.
In the weeds: @SocketSecurity's post also shows why intention matters in how you design a malware analysis pipeline to avoid prompt manipulation.
H/T to colleagues that shared this with me https://t.co/f3Aj9TYxU4
@staysaasy Fable just used a shopkeeper’s apostrophe in a response after punting a previous formatting q, presumably because the doc used the term “nuclear”. The future in not evenly distributed
Closing the bathroom door: not suspicious.

Wanting your phone unscanned: not suspicious.

A lot of folks honestly didn’t think OJ did it - his defense was very good! He was a beloved celebrity! The prosecution was awful & the lead cop wanted to retire bc he was developing racial bias. This proved to them a black celeb could benefit from that doubt, too.
@CrowSheperd His defense was good, the prosecution was awful, the police work was poor, & they actually did have a racist cop on the case. The point was that a famous black received the same deference as a famous white. The verdict was entirely plausible, which was enough.
I miss writing letters to people, including girls I was in love with, because it was much cheaper than a long-distance phone call, which I also spent lots of money on.
I would pour out my heart on page after page in cursive, including drawings in the margins or a mixtape of romantic songs where I tried to communicate from my island, sharing my experiences and thoughts in ink, which has no peer in person or via text. Then I would fold up eight to ten sheets of paper covered front and back, fold it and cram into an envelope, lick and place a stamp and send it off.
Then I’d wait on tenterhooks for a response to my sharing…this was the most delicious part. The waiting.
After days of anticipation, I would check the mailbox and an equally thick letter would be waiting for me from a girl and I would clutch it next to my chest and find a quiet place to unspool her words, imagining how she moved her hand over the very same paper and breathed onto it and noting the particular style of her handwriting. There is really nothing that can compare with this intimacy. I imagine few women these days have ever received such a letter as I wrote in those days, hundreds of pages.
I keep a large box with all the letters I have received and one day I will dip into those feelings again and read them.
@mathdood64@EndWokeness@travis4nh Folks are retconning this story in a maximally divisive way but I remember boomer white football fans disbelieving that OJ could have done it & blacks happy that a black celeb got the same reasonable doubt as say, Robert Blake. America was less racist than they thought!
@SethLargo Idk why authors do this to themselves. The second come-from-obscurity is disadvantaged by time, like the 2nd album curse. And king has the example of his films: Shawshank & green mile were popular w/ people who had no idea he was involved.
