This a better image of how an centrifugal pump works. In this image its showing water flowing into the pump but in our case it would be blood.

The pump acts like our heart it gives our blood a speed boost in this case a pressure boost to help reach our body because the blood can lose velocity and which can decrease flow and result in loss of oxygen.
