Two men were arrested in conjunction with the takedown of JokerOTP, a phishing tool used to intercept 2FA codes. JokerOTP was estimated to have helped steal £7.5M+. The men in question are known as "spit" and "defone123".
These bots usually call the victim, pretending to be from a trusted source (like a bank or coinbase), and ask them to enter or say the OTP/2FA Code, they just received. Once the attacker has the OTP, they can bypass 2FA and access the victim’s account.
The charges faced include fraud, money laundering, blackmail & unauthorized access.
