Norris Cole one of the few ex players that understands context.
Tim Duncan from 99-2003 was the best player in this world. He was more athletic than people realize. He was a monster.
He was better than Shaq & Kobe — who he beat twice in that time period without a star.
He was Top 5 from 04-08.
Then his knee gave out on him.
He then replaced his knee with a large knee brace from 09-16.
From 12-16 Duncan lost 20-25 lbs to add more mobility after his mobility took a significant step back from 09-11.
He would have won Finals MVP if Spurs grabbed a rebound or made a free throw in game 6 of the first Miami series.
He arguably could have/should have won it in 14 as well as he was still the best overall player.
Top 5 player to ever play the game.
He would have put up monster numbers if Pop didn’t sit him in 4th quarters half of the season when then Spurs blew out teams majority of the time ( they lead the league in point differential 95% of his career).
Tim also never was a stat padder like most players are now. Tim would just dominate when necessary.
Duncan won 5 rings, never missed the playoffs, had a winning record against every single team (except the Spurs because he never left), brought fundamentals back to the game, and is hardly ever included in top 5.
Sports journalist should be ashamed of themselves
Anthony Edwards:
“I don’t like all the sitting and missing games… these people might have enough money to come to one game… and you sitting out.”
