I literally just spent 3 minutes trying to find the "racial abuse" directed at this "journalist" in the thread.
Best I can come up with is that the previous reply accurately identified a post framed as if it were coming from an American, as coming from a foreigner. No race was mentioned.
Beyond that, firing all the DEI officers and cleaning house in the military is just something that was long overdue.
@infantrydort I think the fact that active-duty officers feel comfortable racially abusing journalists online, as you did, while promulgating great-replacement-theory conspiracies, as you also did, all while administering spurious factional loyalty oaths, is a core part of the problem.
Leftists love to do this thing where they'll act extremely badly to force a response, then they'll act like they never did anything and the right is just being crazy.
There's a fuckload of videos of crazy politically obsessed idiots trying to vandalize the reflecting pool because their brains are raped by TDS. The National Guard guys here are being perfectly polite and decent, everyone is behaving well. They're there to take care of the people who don't behave well.
. @scottlincicome put a bug in my digital ear about a running commentary on what happened 250 years ago, which I thought was a great idea. So it starts today.
I will call it something thoroughly clever, like "250 Years Ago Today."
That should bring the masses on board as we work our way up to our 250th birthday.
According to IMDB the woman who wrote this film had only written a short film in 2018 and nothing else.
She’s also writing the next Wonder Woman and Teen Titans films.
How do you achieve that from one short film?
Europe survived for centuries without antibiotics.
That doesn’t mean antibiotics are a luxury.
Europe survived for centuries without refrigeration.
That doesn’t mean refrigerators are unnecessary.
Now some people are saying Europe doesn’t need air conditioning.
The logic is bizarre:
“If people can survive without a technology, they shouldn’t use it.”
By that standard, we should get rid of heating, insulation, vaccines, and modern medicine too.
The goal of civilization is not to prove how much suffering we can tolerate.
It’s to reduce suffering.
The solution to climate change is not making elderly people sweat through 40°C apartments to achieve moral purity.
The solution is cleaner energy, better buildings, smarter cities, and more efficient cooling.
Technology got us out of the cave.
The answer isn’t going back in.
Communist terror simps had gotten so used to being pampered by Democrats that they thought they could conspire to go to Texas, lure ICE agents outside, and aid in shooting one in the head without consequences.
It's good to see the @nytimes acknowledge, however begrudgingly, that the most extreme climate projections of the past decade were wrong.
Next step: Acknowledge that we're in a climate renaissance thanks to affordable, reliable, and abundant fossil fuel energy!
I’ve been trying to explain why @theFIREorg is so concerned about the growing push to regulate social media, AI, and the infrastructure of online speech in the name of safety.
Then @NicoPerrino sent an email to staff that said it better than I ever could.
So I’m sharing it because people outside FIRE deserve to understand the stakes too.
This may be the most important free speech fight since the birth of the internet.
For context, she started college in 2012. She graduated in 2016 with a degree in “Middle Eastern Studies.”
She has now been a college student for 14 years, and she’s a…sociology major.
These aren’t working class people. They’re champagne communists.
If Bluesky permanently banned Ken White, it will have done him an enormous favor.
Watching him transform from a measured, effective lawyer into a cancerous shitposter who wishes death on people has been sad. Hard to think of anyone who needs to log off more.
You can run with this premise and the conclusion remains absurd.
The UK has rapidly decarbonised already. It has made no difference, because the UK's share of carbon emissions was already statistically insignificant — which is only becoming more true over time.
We could hit Net Zero. We could hit negative carbon. Nothing would change, because China and India exist, and they do not give a damn about our political gestures.
(This is evidenced by their emissions increasing almost as quickly as our political gestures have proliferated, and over the same timeframe.)
No amount of decarbonisation in the UK will make any difference to summer temperatures. This is not an ethical or an ideological point - I like the environment, I dislike excessive heat - it is a mathematical one.
All it does is make us poorer and less able to adapt to the new reality.
A policy of increasing carbon emissions would, paradoxically, improve our climate resilience, because we'd be able to afford basic infrastructure like air conditioning while adding nothing of note to global emissions.
The only reason this is not widely accepted is that political environmentalism is a virtue cult. It has no interest in climate science, it has no interest in tangible outcomes, it is entirely concerned with allowing mediocrities to play act saving the world.
I'm really not exaggerating when I say that society doesn't actually survive a ton of people who act like this.
It's one thing to deal with the "bottom quintile" folks who don't have the emotional regulation, intelligence, or ability to delay gratification for more than 3 minutes doing anti-social shit. To an extent that's just what you have to expect.
But for normal working professionals with reasonably high paying jobs to act this way is a different category of problem.
She could have chosen anything else. But she chose to toss trash on the ground in order to steel a giant trash can she won't even really use, simply because it's painted blue and orange. Dumb.
Somehow this incident got even worse.
Set aside the DEI part—that’s just ragebait. This is an individual of means, with opportunity, acting with no regard for basic civilized conduct. That’s incredibly bleak.
It's insane how many positions I have held my whole life that are labeled "right wing" now. Really weird to go from being one of the least conservative people in any room growing up, to being told that everything from supporting freedom of speech, to caring about biological reality and empirical evidence over "feelings", to criticizing government abused of power and corruption, to challenging manufactured media narratives is all "right-coded" now.
The key word there being “coded.” I refuse to accept that it’s “right wing” to think women can’t be fathers. Instead of just calling it right wing, can you answer the question?
Just to say the obvious, Socrates was not an advocate of "endless open questions."
That was the Sophists.
Socrates was interested in posing questions SO THAT THEY COULD BE ANSWERED.
It is people who WILL NOT answer questions, ever, that are the enemies of knowledge.
In the 1990s, the government tried to regulate the internet before most people understood what it could become.
Had civil libertarians lost then, online speech might have been crippled in the cradle.
Now social media and AI present a similar test.
To be fair, he has *always* been all of those things. His comedy works because he knows that it's funny to be such an unbearable person. He probably can't really help it, but did mostly channel it for good.
Such an inexplicable tragedy that this incredibly funny and creative man, who built his career on diagnosing human foibles, could become this thing which is the opposite of everything he should be: a self-righteous, self-unaware, priggish bore.
Anti-Israel.
Anti-America.
Anti-Western Civilization.
Why am I the only Democrat in the U.S. Senate that refuses to excuse this or defend any of those self-identified communists?
