In 2026, the Federal Government is projected to spend about US$11.6 billion on debt servicing, equivalent to nearly half of projected government revenue, highlighting the growing fiscal burden.

As public debt continues to place pressure on government finances, stronger fiscal safeguards, transparency, and accountability are essential. Borrowing should be guided by the law, subject to effective oversight, and invested in projects that improve the lives of citizens.
