Eid al-Fitr (Festival of Breaking the Fast) marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan and is celebrated by Muslims around the world. The GECDSB wishes all staff, students and community members who are celebrating a happy and blessed Eid. Eid Mubarak!

Ramadan is one of the holiest months in the Islamic calendar. During Ramadan, many Muslims will abstain from food and water from sunrise to sunset for 30 days. Families will have a pre-dawn meal and then an evening meal to break the fast. The timing of Ramadan changes each year because Muslims follow the lunar calendar. Some Muslims may begin fasting a day earlier and end a day later because of the diversity in the Muslim community.
