Tucson's Miracle Mile mosaic is back! Local artist Paloma Jacqueline hand made 2,000+ ceramic tiles to restore this beloved 30ft mural on the I-10 overpass, originally created by Gary Mackender in 1995. 🎨 Next time you're heading north on I-10, look up!
City officials yesterday, June 23, gathered at Tucson City Hall to open the Tucson 250th Anniversary Time Capsule, an event commemorating the community's rich history and legacy. The ceremony highlighted Tucson's 250th anniversary and reflected on the people, stories, and events that helped shaped the community over more than two centuries.
Tucson's Mayor and Council last week received an update on new technology being used to improve public safety. @Tucson_Police Chief Monica Prieto highlighted the City's Community Safety Awareness and Response Center (CSARC), which uses cameras, license plate readers, and drones to support emergency response and criminal investigations.
Prieto also outlined a new pilot program that would use drones to respond to emergency calls faster. The drones could often arrive before officers, helping first responders gather information and improve safety. The technology will only be used for public safety incidents and investigations.
Privacy protections, public oversight, and transparency measures will remain in place throughout the pilot program. #SafeCity #CityofTucson
All City of Tucson offices, except for emergency services, will be closed tomorrow, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth. All trash and recycling collections will remain on schedule, so make sure to roll out your bins as normal. The Los Reales Sustainability Campus and its landfill services will be open tomorrow, and all public transportation will be on a regular schedule.
While the majority of power outages from yesterday's storms have been resolved, some residents on the south side are still without power.
Those still experiencing power outages are welcome to cool off at the nearest cooling center at El Pueblo Activity Center, 101 W. Irvington Road.
While cooling centers don't open until noon, @TucsonParksRec will gladly accept any walk-ins.
Construction continues on @ReidParkZoo’s Pathway to Asia expansion, with major progress visible throughout the project. The project remains on track to open later this year. Learn more in this video.

We are aware of statewide 911 issues being reported. The City of Tucson 911 system is functioning. 911 calls are being received. If you call with an emergency, please do not hang up until you speak with a 911 operator.
Please call 911 only for true emergencies. Please do not place test calls to verify service. Test calls increase call volume and can delay our ability to answer calls from individuals experiencing life-threatening emergencies or situations requiring immediate assistance.
Thank you for helping us keep emergency lines available for those who need them most.

Protecting the public on Tucson streets during the monsoon is the objective of @Tucson_DTM's Operation Splash campaign. Today, June 15, marks the official recordkeeping start date of the monsoon, and storms already have begun. Crews from DTM’s Streets Maintenance Division recently delivered barricades to hundreds of dip crossings throughout the city so they're ready when needed. Starting Wednesday, June 17, DTM will be offering free self-serve sandbags in the east parking lot of Hi Corbett Field, 700 S. Randolph Way, at Reid Park. #SafeCity #cityoftucson #monsoon2026
Tucson's Mayor and Council this week heard an update of the Safe City Initiative that aims to improve neighborhood and community safety. Part of that is the Transit Safety and Security Action Plan, adopted last December.
Since March, @Tucson_Police special duty deployments on the transit system have resulted in 730 warnings, 127 arrests, 88 citations, 28 referrals for services and 15 deflections.
Recent safety efforts have included increased police patrols, more security services, bus stop improvements, and better tracking of incidents. The plan also includes a transit ambassador program and better support services. #SafeCity #cityoftucson
On Wednesday, May 27, Safe City partners conducted a coordinated deployment in the area of St. Mary's Road and Silverbell Road, with a command post located behind Safeway.
These deployments bring together outreach, housing, behavioral health, treatment, and public safety resources to help address immediate concerns while connecting individuals with longer-term support.
One encouraging outcome from this deployment was that four individuals independently approached the deployment team seeking services and support. This reflects the trust being built through consistent engagement and the relationships formed between staff and the community.
Safe City deployments occur monthly at strategic locations throughout Tucson, ensuring that individuals are connected with the right resources at the right time. #SafeCity #cityoftucson
