Modi made 157 foreign trips to 73 countries during his time as Prime Minister. For his travel, we even gave him two special airplanes that cost the country ₹8,400 crore.

But what did we really get out of all this? When it came to important issues like Pakistan’s IMF bail out or the recent terror attacks, not a single country from that long list stood by India. Most of our all weather friends in the neighbourhood were turned into enemies.

These trips cost us thousands of crores. A large part of the spending went into hosting grand events for NRIs, feeding Modi fans fancy food and drinks, and building the Modi cult. Most of the visits seemed more focused on helping big businessmen like Adani and Ambani get deals abroad.

Apart from hugging world leaders and posing for reels and photos, what actual benefits have we seen? Have we received cheaper defence deals? Have we got any major technology transfers? Have we got a higher place in any elite international grouping? Have we got better tariff deals? The answer is no.

It’s time we start asking tough questions to Modi and the BJP. We cannot let them get away without giving real answers or by doing whataboutery.
