I think helpful to think of engagement as distinct from co-production and co-design, and helpful for lived experience insight feeding in. For me, co is about equal power in activity with shared purpose and objectives.
🧵 What do you feel are the essential elements for #coproduction or #codesign?
What makes engagement authentic?
We read over 1000 articles to explore these questions.
Here is a thread on what we learned (with some examples).

Thank you @clentonF@TheKingsFund I’ve been working in mental health system/service co-production for some time and I found this podcast fortifying in challenging times for making the ‘why’ case for co-production and therefore securing the investment behind it.

According to the latest data, suicide rates are at the highest level since 1999. Three quarters of suicides are by men, but the number of suicides amongst women has increased, and is now greater than in 1994.
Nobody should go through suicidal feelings alone. Our patient leaflet sets out where you, or a loved one, can access specialist support 24/7.

No.
Doctors are NOT morally obligated to work in the NHS
Juniors doctors end up with >£100K of personal debt for the privilege of their own training
They, like in ANY other profession, have a right to choose where they work.
We’re not enslaved to the NHS our entire career!
I love theory of change/logic model approaches for complex projects & programmes with multiple stakeholders and success relying on hearts & minds, emotional factors and cultural drivers as well as the obvious doing (that doesn’t necessarily lead to outcomes & impacts)
Messages from frontline asylum charities wondering what to do in face of gov claiming start of asylum arrests tomorrow:
1. People are frightened, be careful not to allow our fear to spread further to them. Be calm. Remember your role is to listen, present options, don’t direct.
