Victim of UK building safety crisis, 27, first time buyer, leaseholder of a Sheffield flat with multiple fire safety defects. @Sheff_CAG #EndOurCladdingScandal
This is me exactly 2 years ago, proudest day of my life, the day I bought my first home.
Today I got to mark 2 years in my first home by watching 320 Tory MPs vote to force me into paying ruinous bills to fix defects installed when I was 11 years old 🤦🏼♀️

A much appreciated visit from Building Safety Minister @rushanaraali to Mcr today & the Linx Building, to hear first hand of all the difficulties with remediation works, soaring insurance costs, lack of transparency & more.
Thanks to Ruth from Linx and @McrCladiators as ever
📺📻🎙️ There has been a huge amount of media coverage of the building safety scandal in recent weeks.
🙏 Thank you to everyone who shared their story & highlighted the urgency of fixing this crisis. We couldn’t have answered all the requests without your help 💛

I am so grateful that @MikeAmesbury is our MP He is always fighting our corner. Thank you Mike. 👏👏Delays to replace unsafe cladding at Runcorn apartments The Decks | Runcorn and Widnes World https://t.co/GKOoUgo30F
🔴 Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by the fire in Dagenham this morning.
The number one priority is that all affected residents are safe and well and get the support and answers they need.
Action to make our homes safe remains urgent - and the pace must accelerate.
🗳️ Do you have a new MP?
👉 They need to know how the building safety crisis impacts you.
📨 Make sure you get in touch with them & ask for their support.

We welcome the new govt’s intention to accelerate remediation but it must hold all parties to account, with firm deadlines & real consequences for delays, otherwise building profitable new homes will continue to take precedence over making our homes safe.

🚨 @mhclg
Government's failure to fix the building safety crisis has consequences.
Up to 3 million leaseholders cannot remortgage or sell, and many can no longer afford to live in their own home.
👇
Leaseholders "unable to sell their flats due to ‘nightmare’ cladding remediation works on their building."
🏗️ Remediation means constant drilling, water ingress and no access to balconies or natural light for months.

Disappointing to see no reference of the cladding & building safety scandal in the King’s Speech.
We look forward to meeting the Minister with the brief next week to understand how @UKLabour will meet its manifesto commitments 👇🏼
We also hope to meet @AngelaRayner soon.
🚨 600,000 people will go to bed tonight in homes that are still unsafe, and almost 3 million are trapped in homes they cannot sell.
We need an end to the decades-long collective failure of the state and the construction industry.

Hello @Keir_Starmer 👋🏽👇🏼
Four years later, the law may have changed but the vast majority of innocent leaseholders remain trapped.
We had strong support from @UKLabour in opposition. Now we need to know your plan to protect all victims of this unresolved scandal.
Thank you.
The 2019 Conservative Party Manifesto promised unequivocally to restrict ground rents to a peppercorn.
If the Tories are abandoning that manifesto commitment, leaseholders deserve to know why.
Michael Gove needs to come to Parliament on Monday to explain himself.
🔴 We met Secretary of State @MichaelGove, Minister @Lee4NED and @luhc officials this week.
Government needs to do MORE to end the #BuildingSafetyCrisis

🗣️ It is disgraceful how the Government is closing the doors on so many people
Read about our meeting with @KathPinnock, in which #NonQualifyingLH highlighted consequences of the flawed Building Safety Act 👇
🙏Thank you for continuing to challenge @luhc

We want
✅ Robust, meaningful oversight of developer contracts
✅ Funding to match risk
✅ All industry stakeholders held to account
✅ Clear deadlines
✅ Social landlords with same access to govt funding as private sector

"Gove gave developers an ultimatum to sign a government contract to fix their unsafe blocks or be banned from the market. (...)
In practice, the fine print allows them to fix only what a fire expert they appoint says they should"
